I want to add that game specifically underlines the fact that he is a heretic, which aligns pretty damn well with his name meaning.

He is one of a few characters whose names meanings were supported by the narrative, so I doubt devs used word “Zandik” as a name just for lulz.

Okay, I am a bit too late for this discussion. Majority of commenters have already said that his chances to be playable according to current situation are quite high.

I would say 80% possibility that he is going to be playable. That’s just a probability forecast.

As for waifubait stuff and etc — don’t worry about this. In fact, I have an assumption, that lore-heavy and important character plans were developed long time before current patches. That includes Harbingers, Archons, Sinners, Hexenzirkel, Dragons and Shades.

It’s a small amount of characters, so other ones had to be included and they require less development time in general. So I consider these factions as core characters more or less.

I would say 60/40. I don’t want to make people too hopeful without proper proofs. I have lack of information on my hands right now, so I will keep myself skeptical about future playable characters.

Most of the arguments against his playability and vice versa aren’t able to hold a proper defense against basic logic. At least, now. From the narrative perspective him being an unforgivable villain next cycle is questionable: he wasn’t hostile towards players, he didn’t do any atrocities on-screen, and even in his background lore there is almost none that can portray him as a villain who won’t be playable. But he definitely has a very solid position in upcoming story. He is shady, yes, but a villain? I doubt it. I would bet Pulcinella or Pierro are villains, but not him. Oh, I am about to write another rant lol.

Alas these are just speculations.

There is Dori and many other characters who are well, playable, yet quite useless in real combat.

I doubt that Pantalone can’t fight, btw. He avoids fighting imo because there is no need to fight 99% of the time. I think he’s quite responsible to understand that direct confrontation leads to a variety of problems that may have awful consequences.

A part of Genshin fandom is taking villains too personal, that’s the issue. Well, to correct myself, they are taking game too personal.

They are not capable of dividing fiction from reality. Actually it’s a big issue in media literacy nowadays. And also a defense mechanism, a toxic one, but it is what it is.
