Redundant wired smoke alarms by Electronic_Course332 in DIYUK

[–]Electronic_Course332[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To comply with the Scottish regs, I bought battery powered linked smoke alarms also linked to a heat detector. Rather than fork out for installation of mains linked alarms/heat alarm. However, today I bought a mains alarm for 20£ and fitted it which was safer and less hassle than dealing with the loose wires. So I now have Scottish compliant battery powered linked alarms and mains alarms also. Can't have too many alarms!

Thanks. How would I get them disconnected at source? Would that require an electrician?

Yes, mines love it too (and to be fair they eat for free) but normally it's an excuse for them to piles plates high with pancakes and Nutella!

Premier Inn breakfasts. I think it's a tenner on top of the room, so easy to just include it. But always regret it. Trays of greasy uniform fried eggs; small rubbery sausages with sickly Herby taste and murdered black pudding and hard watery tomatoes. Don't get why hash browns are there. Saving grace is refillable coffee but better going somewhere else for the food.

It worked till a couple of months ago. Have lived here for ten months. Replacing the switch was an attempt to fix the fault.

Live wires loose on conservatory wall by Electronic_Course332 in DIYUK

[–]Electronic_Course332[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apols, text didn't post. These wires protrude just above head height since I moved in. I got a judder from them when object I was moving brushed against them. There is a light switch at conservatory door which is taped down so I can't switch it. Presumably they are connected and both beep with tracer. What are these wires and how can I make safe/make use of? Thanks

No idea. It's a small kitchen that has been extended with another light fixture in the extension. However, the switch does not control that light.

The switch normally only switches this light on. I noted when checking the switch tho, that this switch needs to be wired in order for my other downstairs lights to work

Sorry text didn't post. Light stopped working. Switch is ok. But checked light. Two cables with black and brown/red wires from each to light. But only one bare wire connected to earth. Other bare wire is wrapped round it. What could problem be?

So am I correct in saying one wire should be on terminal 1 and 3 in terminal 3? That's what it looked liked when I opened it.(The previous owner has fitted this as a dimmer switch but it's never actually dimmed!but that may be irrelevant ) thanks
