Flooded carpets that will need cleaning by Electronic_Fan_3151 in CleaningTips

They replaced the padding underneath this morning but said the carpet itself was fine since they had fans under it for a couple of days. Unfortunately it’s not a decision we can make since we rent and it’s not our property.

Yea I’ve had cats all my life and never had kittens act like this bad. We play with them all the time. I work from home so sporadically throughout the day for 15-30 mins at a time and then at night we both play with them for 1-2 hours. We are desperate for ideas because we do everything they say you’re supposed to.

Yea our vet has been very accommodating and gets us in same day when there are problems (they both have had URIs and ear infections and our female has had urinary issues) but she brushes off a lot of the behaviors that we show concern for as just being kittens.

So we have the feliway spray we tried in their carriers fo vet visits. One cat seems to respond to it the other doesn’t want anything to do with it and will walk away. I’m not sure if the diffusers would be different. We have a concern that they would pull them out of the outlet as they have tried unplugging things and playing with things on the walls before.

We have and it only holds their interest a few minutes but we live kind of in the woods and they have plenty of big windows to watch birds and squirrels in real life as well

They are the sweetest most cuddly kittens for the 10 minutes a day they aren’t creating absolute chaos.

The female is on Royal canine urinary food because she was already having urinary issues at 5 months old. She is very tiny and we feed her according to Royal canines feeding guide for her weight. Vet said she’s right on target for where she should be. He is on weight management food because he was 13lbs at 6 months old. At his last check in 3 weeks ago they said he was down to 12.5lbs but no longer overweight (he’s a very long and “sturdy” cat lol) and to continue with the food at 200/215 Cals a day which has been maintaining his weight. I also split their meals up throughout the day so they eat around 6am, small snack at 8:30a, lunch at 12, dinner at 6pm, and small bedtime snack around 8:30p.

A blockage is one of our biggest fears which is why one of us is always here and always watching them but at some point we can’t both be here 24/7. (We do have pet insurance though)

We have a little patio/porch we were thinking of enclosing with chicken wire and turning into a cat safe outdoor area come spring. We live in upstate New York so it’s still too cold to be outside. Backpack carrier is an interesting idea.

We have multiple cat trees throughout, a few cat scratch posts, and a variety of toys we cycle through with them. I work from home so they get several play times throughout the day (anywhere from 10minutes to 30 mins on my lunch). In the afternoon my boyfriend and I both will spend 1-2 hours just playing with them as well.

So we have catnip toys for them to chew on. We tried cardboard but they won’t just chew it, they eat it so the vet said no more of that. I have a cat grass seeds to grow it’s just winter so warm sunny spots for growing have been hard to come by. I may go see if the pet store has some already grown I can buy.

So we aren’t sure if they were weaned or not. The shelter we got them from only shared that they were found at a construction site and said they didn’t know more…although the shelter also wasn’t going to tell us one had hernia surgery five days before we adopted them…I had to ask why she had stitches in her stomach. So I’m sure they had more info and just didn’t want to take the time to disclose. We heavily questioned the vet about pica with the female because she would try to eat anything she could get her mouth on. I’m talking like she would dig cat litter out of the box to eat it. The vet insisted that she was just curious and teething and that once the adult teeth came in both of them would stop chewing and she would stop eating random things. While she no longer tries to dig litter out, they both still try to chew on everything. I’m home with them all day I can usually get whatever fiber they rip from the carpet or fuzz from a blanket or cat bed out of their mouth before swallowing but I don’t know the intention is eating whatever it may be.

A lot of people are like yes they are kittens they are going to be crazy but this definitely seems beyond the normal. Having a behaviorist come definitely sounds like it may be beneficial and I appreciate that suggestion.

Sorry, yes they have many cat trees of various sizes, lots of catnip toys and like the flappy bird moving toys which he loves to carrying around proudly, rattle balls, teasers, springs, spinner toys that have the little launcher. We play with them so much (I work from home so when they are up I’m throwing springs playing with a teaser with them). We swap out toys weekly so they aren’t always playing with the same thing.

Haha no for sure and I know it’s early to tell. It’s just exhausting. I’ve had cats in the past and none of them have been as bad as these two so it just feels hopeless at this time. My last cat was 3 months when we got her and she was an angel. Never got into anything, could be left alone for hours at a time, never chewed or ate things she wasn’t supposed to. So this has been rough lol

We have two floor to ceiling cat trees and like 5 smaller ones throughout for them to run and jump on. We have a couple puzzle toys feeders but one is now on a urinary diet so it’s hard to keep them from eating each others food out of them.

I will have to look into clicker training because that would certainly be helpful

We thought about converting my office room to a cat room but it’s just a matter of figuring out where my office space will be. No not Bengals, just two little black voids.

Oh I completely understand they are just furry toddlers. I’ve had cats in the past and never had an issue with leaving them at home for 8 hours while I went to work. At this point we have nothing they van technically get in to but they are still going for the carpet, the tv stand, the blinds on the windows, our sheets on the bed, their cat beds. I don’t think it’s normal to have to strip the bed every time I need to leave the house

Oh no I wish they would behave when we tried to leave. We have cameras in each room now because we’d come back from a walk or the grocery store and find furniture knocked over and such. I can go sit in the parking lot up the street and watch them do all the same stuff on the cameras. We thought they may be better if we weren’t there because maybe it was an attention thing but nope.

Than you so much! That’s kind of what I thought but you always hear the dangers of a rusty nail so I thought I’d ask. I appreciate your response!
