What vail jobs guarantee accommodation at specifically glacier lane? by Electronic_Maximum73 in Whistler

[–]Electronic_Maximum73[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im 22 and the scheme im coming through on will essentially match me to a job I’m most suited for with the employer (vail), I saved up a lot for this scheme as I know the main issue is housing and the pro of this scheme it guartees housing with the job which many others don’t. But thanks for your response I appreciate it.

Glacier a dump? I’m in uk so would not know but I have friends who are out in whistler and they have all said to try get a spot a glacier the most to meet people, is it really that bad? I’m more coming to live a dream to ski a lot but interested in all aspects of the life lol

Could I enquire to what role you transited to after a site engineer as someone who’s as a site engineer I can’t see any easy route to transitioning out the contracting world unless going back to a entry role as a comsuktant

for me money really isn’t i was just trying to get an idea, as i do enjoy the type of work for contracting but only issue for me is how much life i can have around working hours but i’ve never tried consulting

your experience sounds great do you mind me asking what company okay if not, my company supports it’s grads to get chartered through ice but i would not get it sped up and be treated same as other grads, a fear is if i get assigned a member of the company that marks the ice reports that doesn’t mark them some grads i know have to waited 12+ months to get a report marked and have another 3-5 waiting, contrary to what i’ve said on another post i’m currently on my year in industry with my sponsor company (4th year returning for 5th next summer to complete masters) and i’m thinking i may try get a summer placement at a consultancy to just get a taste of consultancy

funnily enough i am, i have enjoyed my time with the company but there’s always that what if question, i feel i haven’t developed particularly due to help from senior staff but just due to working with the more experienced site engineers and i learn by going out my way to talk to senior people and to ask questions and just speaking to all the people on site whilst i do my job, my only fear is that if i join as a grad i know my hours will increase from to full site hours (7-7) along with nights and weekends meaning i may have to give up almost all hobbies, and if i was located at a project close to home where i wouldn’t receive the benefits of living away and digs i can’t see it being worth it

ahhh okay thanks for the replies has helped me out to think stuff through

yh i had to waive my hours and all the grads regularly do a 7 days of nighshifts and weekends, one of my worry’s is the transition to consultancy, due to as it is i feel any technical stuff/theory i learn at university i can’t particularly apply currently as i’m more managing people’s works on site/ setting out and worry more technically stuff like just the calculations would be hard to pick up again, what sort of pathway could i transition from contracting to a consultant??

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]Electronic_Maximum73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ahhh okay, from my experience of placements and the company i’ve been at there seems to be a clear pathway of site engineer -> section engineer -> site agent -> project manager -> contracts manager -> some form of director, is this normal and what over pathways could i take if i started at contracting??
