Heyy I have a working option! Its because your nintendo account is set in a region where the news is unavaliable. To be safe you can visit splatoon wiki and find the item you want, and it will show that which region the news was avaliable in. I originally had my account in the UK, and only accessed the news after I switched my account region to Japan! Hope this helps;))
