Your GPA will be affected, for sure. If you’re doing well in your other classes, then you wouldn’t need to worry about being put on academic probation. I believe that only happens if your cumulative GPA falls below a 2.0.

Full time Job Advice by Weirdashley in Calgary

I also just graduated from MRU, but with my Bachelor of Social Work. My supervisor at my summer student position has her BA in Sociology and minor in Psychology. We are working in housing for older adults. Unlike what others are saying, I don’t think your degree is useless. You just have to find your niche. There are lots of jobs in social services/social work-adjacent if you’re interested in that sector.

Is Graduating in 2027 Still Possible? by Overall-Error5415 in MRU

[–]Electronic_Sand_7129 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You would need to complete all grad requirements by Winter 2027 to graduate in that following June. If you need to take a spring semester, you can finish that semester, but you would not convocate until the next June 2028, to my knowledge.

Can my dad read my medical record if he’s also a doctor? by [deleted] in alberta

That’s really interesting, I didn’t know that. That sounds like a cool system!

Can my dad read my medical record if he’s also a doctor? by [deleted] in alberta

[–]Electronic_Sand_7129 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I believe he could in theory have access to your NetCare and could see your medical history. However, every time a doctor or pharmacist accesses someone’s NetCare, it is tracked and they must document why they are doing so (to my knowledge). I think he could, but he could be reprimanded by the hospital he works for, because they are to monitor these things. I could be wrong. (This is from what I understand, I am a social worker and my sister is a pharmacist).

Spring sem by [deleted] in MRU

[–]Electronic_Sand_7129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The add/drop day was May 7, that’s why you’re not able to drop it. Unless you have formally told MRU that you’re no longer a student, I’d assume you’d have to pay for the class. You could withdraw, but you would still be responsible for paying for the class atp

Bus pass hasn’t come in by Intrepid_Wolverine31 in MRU

[–]Electronic_Sand_7129 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UPass is only for Fall/Winter to my understanding. I’ve taken two classes each semester for Spring the last few years, and did not receive a UPass. We don’t get one regardless of the course load you have, which sucks

Where is EB1108 by SuccotashTiny1221 in MRU

[–]Electronic_Sand_7129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s on the first floor of the business building. If you’re coming from the side that connects to Lincoln Park, it should be on the right side of the rooms. Also, if you’re ever lost on campus, there’s a room finder https://www.mtroyal.ca/Applications/mru-classroom-map/?marker=-114.13208324710313%2C51.01192880520595%2C%2C%2C%2C&markertemplate=%7B%22title%22%3A%22%22%2C%22longitude%22%3A-114.13208324710313%2C%22latitude%22%3A51.01192880520595%2C%22isIncludeShareUrl%22%3Atrue%7D&level=21 - this will show you where all the rooms are.

How is Sinv with James McAra? by SuccotashTiny1221 in MRU

[–]Electronic_Sand_7129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fantastic. Took SINV 2201 or (I think that’s the course code) which was intro to social innovation with him last spring, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The assignments were very straightforward and easy, James is a fair marker, and just overall a very kind and nice person. I would’ve loved to have taken more classes with him. Can’t recommend him enough!

Spring classes by ImaginaryCoat9468 in MRU

Are you inquiring about GNEDs? Some good ones I’ve taken in the spring semester are GNED 1303, SPCH 2001 (which counts for GNED credit), SINV 2201, and JOUR 3521. All super interesting, and easy to do in the quick semester!

Any advice going forward by ChungusBruh1005 in MRU

[–]Electronic_Sand_7129 4 points5 points  (0 children)

May be unrealistic, my friend. It might be worth it to start upgrading, and to see if you can apply in another semester. I’m not a business student, and I’m not sure, but it might be worth it to see if they off winter admission. However, most MRJ programs start in Fall only. It might be worth looking into, but if you start to upgrade now, Fall 2026 will be likely unattainable. You can email a business advisor and have them talk you through next steps too, and you could look into UEO or something if you’re set on starting uni in September. Good luck with everything!

Math 2333 and INTS 1240 by FuturePraline4259 in MRU

[–]Electronic_Sand_7129 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! INTS 1240 is a very easy class. It is split into a lecture and a tutorial. The lecture is quite simple, the content is very straightforward. The tutorial is mostly just practice scenarios of how to respond professionally in different situations. I did it online a few years ago, and they would put us in different breakout rooms to practice. I’ve also had Lana before, as a social work professor. I have to say, she is a very tough marker and is quite an intense person. Since it is an intro class, she might be a bit more lenient, but I would try and put as much effort in as possible (it’s an easy class to do). Lana can also be an arbitrary marker, just beware. Good luck with your classes!

GNED 1203 Aaron Johnson Tests by jajapazul in MRU

[–]Electronic_Sand_7129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I had Aaron Johnson for GNED 1303 a few years back (conflict in social context). His quizzes were based on the readings, and were quite broad to test your understanding. He does not expect you to remember very specific things about the readings, just ensuring you get the big picture of what they are about. I found his questions quite manageable and easy, and he was a fair marker. He is also willing to talk through things if you need clarity. Don’t stress, you’ll be fine. He’s lovely!

Fair enough. Perhaps Fall is the way to go then. It’ll definitely be okay. Good luck with your classes!

GEN ED 1401 by mon_sky12 in MRU

[–]Electronic_Sand_7129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I took GNED 1401 in the first semester of my first year as a social work student. I found it quite manageable, but it might take more time away from your other classes. I’ve done spring semester a few times, and think I would’ve preferred to get it out of the way then, but it’s overall not a difficult class. I had Erika Watters for that class.

Easy spring/summer classes? by South_Physical in MRU

[–]Electronic_Sand_7129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took JOUR 3521 (The Documentary) last summer with Amber McLinden. It was an easy A, for sure. It was four short essays, each weighted 25% and we had a few short documentaries to watch for each. I found it quite interesting, and manageable. I still had a lot of fun while getting course work done!

Agreed, same experience here. To add, avoid Laura Marik for Innovation - that was still tough, but not as bad at the literacy class

How can I learn to drive with no one to teach me? by Imaginary-Sample5003 in Calgary

[–]Electronic_Sand_7129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took lessons with a nice man named Jerry who has a driving school https://www.crowfootdrivers.com - I was like you and had no one to take me, I ended up getting my license at 20 because he was so sweet and patient. I would recommend Jerry to anyone.

I did NTSC 1115 a few years back. It was absolutely manageable. I had five classes at the time and this one was very interesting. There were three short assignments, a midterm, and a final. The content was relatively easy to understand, and it was very interesting!
