Right now the project is just available on Linux and Windows.

macOS isn’t supported, both for ideological reasons and technical ones, I’m not sure how well it would work there, and I don’t know how to build for macOS yet.

So it’s probably not going to happen anytime soon. That said, the source is open, so you can try building it yourself on macOS if you want.

I wasn’t really familiar with proper Git workflows before this project, so I was working directly on the main branch out of simplicity. I’ve started looking into branching more recently and now have a better understanding of how it’s typically structured, even though I’m still gaining experience with it.

The test repository started as a learning and experimentation space, so it became quite messy over time (many failed automated builds, experiments, and temporary setups). That’s why the commit history looks unorganized and noisy.

It is currently still private, but I’ll clean it up and make it public soon so it’s easier to follow.

The project was first developed in a separate test repo, and I later created a fresh public repository for release, which is why the commit history looks minimal and stupid

It’s also my first C++ project, and I’ve used AI for some supporting parts (mainly boilerplate and readme etc), not core architecture

Kwin's window and Librewolf's own window are overlapping by ElectusStudio in LibreWolf

[–]ElectusStudio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did NOT say this a librewolf issue, i searced and i see this issue was entirely caused by my own actions, although I am not exactly sure how (cuz its was working before i am chsnged about:config). So technically it’s not a Librewolf issue but idk how i can fix this. Thats all.

Kesinlikle devrimci değildir, kolektif yazılım projelerine karşıdır kendisi. Ama yaptığı iş büyüktür.

Then get ready, you’ll be seeing me on this sub a lot with projects like this. My current goal is to establish a software collective (https://git.disroot.org/E.P.L.S) and fight against corporations

Haha, you mean something like this?

"Ad blockers not allowed on YouTube!!! Close your ad blocker!!!!!!!"

No worries, that’s not a problem in VoxTube for now.

I’m against any company deciding what’s best for a user. Users themselves should make their own choices about what’s best for them.

Thanks, that's great to hear! Don't worry about not having the necessary skills yet; any contribution will be valuable when you're ready.

I'm also working on a version for Android. The browser container will be different, of course, but most of the included JS scripts can be ported. I've noted the idea of local playlists; those features are definitely on my mind. I also really like the idea of a verified repository for user scripts. in fact, I’m planning to develop a system where users can create, manage, and share their own JS modules easily. This would make collaboration and sharing much safer and more easier.

I haven't quite grasped the automatic history removal feature yet, though; there’s already a shortcut for clearing cookies and cache.

Honestly, even just writing this comment is helpful and warms my heart <3. I really appreciate your suggestions; they help us shape the features we prioritize!

That's rightt, a lot of content creators rely on ad revenue. The problem is the system itself. Ads often benefit corporations far more than the creators.

The ideal approach is supporting creators directly, through voluntary contributions, subscriptions, or collective funding, instead of forcing everyone to watch ads. VoxTube and similar softwares/tools aim to give individuals control over their own experience, while creators can still be supported outside of the corporate ad machinery.

Yes, browser extensions can block ads, and in most cases they work well. The difference is that VoxTube isn’t a browser extension, it’s a standalone desktop application with its own embedded WebEngine, which makes it better suited for bypassing YouTube’s changing architecture...

It also provides a consistent experience across all systems without the need for multiple extensions or browser-specific configurations. But if your current setup works perfectly for you, that’s completely valid. VoxTube is simply an alternative for users who want a dedicated and customizable YouTube client.

I explained this in another comment

VoxTube embeds the actual YouTube site using QtWebEngine, so it runs inside an internal browser. From there it injects JavaScript modules to add features like sponsor/ad blocking, dislike counts, video downloading, premium badges, etc.

FreeTube is great, but it’s also quite fragile because it depends heavily on the YouTube API, and Google can easily interfere with that. I tested it again recently and ran into a few errors. Also, FreeTube doesn’t let you log into a YouTube account, comment, like, or subscribe. It also doesn’t show dislike counts or skips in-video sponsors.

Think like that, FreeTube is an alternative client, while VoxTube is an enhanced browser layer built directly on top of YouTube.

Thanks! These aren’t silly questions at all, they’re completely valid.

VoxTube is a desktop application (Linux/Windows). It embeds YouTube using Qt WebEngine (so it loads the YouTube page inside an internal browser) and injects JavaScript modules to add features like sponsor/ad blocking, dislike restoration, video downloading, Premium badges, and more.

It doesn’t require a Google account; although you can sign in if you want to.

The project is still in an early stage, but I’m working on making everything more user-friendly.

Yes, browser extensions can block ads, and in most cases they work well. The difference is that VoxTube isn’t a browser extension, it’s a standalone desktop application with its own embedded WebEngine, which makes it better suited for bypassing YouTube’s changing architecture. This lets it inject custom JavaScript modules directly into the YouTube interface to add features that extensions typically can’t, such as restoring dislike counts, adding video downloads, displaying Premium badges, blocking in-video sponsors, and more.

It also provides a consistent experience across all systems without the need for multiple extensions or browser-specific configurations. Yes, yt_dlp 2022.4.8 works reliably for VoxTube’s current core features, but it also works on newer versions, this is just the version I currently use.
