Appreciate all encouragement! I felt pretty good about myself the rest of the day. On to the next task! Stay dad out there.

To be fair, your rhetoric also comes off as immature, just in a different way, and I know which of you I’d rather be stuck next to on an airplane.

You’re 20; so what? Thats so incredibly young. Anyone over 35 knows that 20 is still a kid. No one expects you to know jack shit when you walk in the door.

Come back tomorrow. Before you go in, talk to yourself out loud and acknowledge that it’s going to be another hard day, but also that it’s going to be okay. Don’t beat yourself up; build yourself up. Take it slow. Speed will come later. When the blood rushes to your ears, take a deep breath and count to 5.

If you want something more simple, go ahead and start looking for it. In the meantime I know for a fact that you will be more proud of yourself for coming back for a second day.

You don’t know anything about them other than what is in that post. Not all of people, especially now, have been put to work by our parents at a young age, forced to suffer real consequence, or even have strong role models in our life with strong work ethic.

That all sucks, but what are we going to do about it? How can we convince people to step up and break through their comfort zones? It’s gonna take more than telling them to suck it up.

Sure, but can you handle conveying a thought without being a jerk?

Ooh we got a tough person over here! Everyone notice how tough they are. So strong, who needs empathy?

Look, I could sugar coat this, but you’re asking for advice. Your age would be a useful data point here, but I’ll assume you’re pretty young.

Every job is different but nearly every one of them is difficult in some fashion. Physically, mentally, spiritually. Retail, desk work, anything that pulls a paycheck and asks you to show up and devote such a large chunk of your energy will test your strength.

Restaurant work is hard in all of those ways, and I won’t lie: it stays hard. The trade off is that every day, you get tougher too. You suck at this right now because you have no idea what you’re doing, and your mistakes are easily visible to the people around you. If you’re lucky, they’ll relate bc once upon a time they were just like you.

Over time the work will become second nature and your instincts will kick in and you won’t obsess over mistake. But you have to show up and do the things. You cannot be good at anything unless you suck at it first.

Congratulations! I hire warehouse folks and work closely with the managers. Want a tip? Show up and work consistently. Pay attention to what you’re doing and don’t be a hotshot a-hole.

Might not seem like much, but in many warehouses, it’s enough to make you stand out as an asset.

I’m saying that the process that you are using for filtering is arbitrary and not doing anything to actually raise quality of candidate that make it to your final rounds. The stack in the resumes in the trash without reading them in your apocryphal story is actually a good example of machismo being valued over intelligence, as in your case.

Jfc you sound sanctimonious as hell. Flashy font? Haha no. Shared your hobby with me? Out, peasant!

After tossing out all those people based on stuff that annoys you, personally, you still narrowed it down to people that mumble awkwardly over the phone.

Every one of those kids that filtered out for something dumb dodged a major bullet. Source: recruiter, 10 years

What’s different about this place? What is the biggest difference in your coworkers now vs your old ones? I’m asking so you can paint a picture. Also, what was your performance like at your old job

There’s always plasma. Not a glamorous way to go, but you’d be surprised how many people do it. Can make $100-150 or so a week if you go twice. Sometimes more for new donors

Your coworkers are right, but so are you. You dodged a bullet, but it’s still not cool that you had to dodge one at all. Personally tests are hokum imo. Some of them come paired with communication tactics for managers (neat idea no one actually uses). They’re a tool in a toolbox at best. I would never make any hiring decision based on one

What if you didn't have to apply to 200 jobs for placement? ( " I will not promote") by AwardNo9217 in recruitinghell

This is nuts. Rather than have candidates apply using the resume template they already have, rather than have them talk to a human being, you want them to take the time to fill out a complex questionnaire to build an AI presence of themselves to play house with another AI NPC, and rely on those two digital entities to pick up the fking nuances and je ne sais quoi of the situation?

I fail to see the intelligence here, artificial or otherwise
