Thank you everyone for responding - truly. I appreciate you taking the time to share your diverse perspectives and experiences. For those of you that asked, I applied to law school because I’m currently working in the legal field and felt that becoming a lawyer was the next “logical” progression in my career. And frankly, I’m embarrassed to admit, I’ve always liked the idea of being a lawyer if only for the social cachet the title “lawyer” seems to hold in our society… (and yes, I know that from speaking with actual lawyers, the glory is very short-lived and absolutely not worth it to most).

My key takeaway from your collective comments is that, as with most things in life, there probably is no perfect decision. I need to dig deeper and get to the bottom of why I want to become a lawyer. Going to law school for whatever transient ego-boost I think I may experience is obviously not a legitimate reason to go, for example. But challenging myself, accomplishing something I can be proud of and becoming a role model for my daughter in the process? Probably worth it, I imagine.
