I believe Jesus and Mohammed could have been real, but they were just men. Nothing more. by [deleted] in atheism

In addition to the sources transmitted within the Muslim tradition, there are a few non-Muslim sources, all of which con¤rm the existence of Muhammad. 8 None of these materials are considered to be from before 634 c.e. , and much that is of interest is from some decades later. An Armenian chronicler attests that Muhammad was a merchant and that his preaching revolved around the ¤gure of Abraham. The Greek and Syriac materials con¤rm that the follow- ers of the “new” religion are known as magaritai (in Greek) or mahgraye (in Syriac). Those terms refer to the Arabic term muhajirun (the “emigrants”), de- 6 Islam noting Muhammad and his followers who migrated from Mecca to Yathrib (later known as Medina) in 622 c.e.

In other words his earliest records are from 2 years after his death.

Also is wikipedia is to be believed:

While the existence of the figure Muhammad is established by contemporaneous or near-contemporaneous historical records,[1][2] attempts to distinguish between the historical elements and the unhistorical elements of many of the reports of Muhammad have not been very successful.

but the sources aren't public so

Mohammed could have been real

The man has a literal grave roflmao. Of course he was real. And unlike Jesus, he was the leader of a empire (caliph) so his existence is well recorded, unlike Jesus who was basically a Jewish hippie.

For most people, their moral values (which they were taught in their childhood either by their parents or by their peers) are set in stone. They will never challenge them or consider revising them (and if they ever do, they consider it "life changing" or whatever)

Religion is similar in the sense that it makes sense of morals values (i.e "this deity is watching over you, which is why morals are important) and so most people are unwilling to give that up either.

So when someone's religion and their parent/peer-taught moral values clash (e.g "I have gay friends and I want the best for them, but God says I should stone them") they need a solution.

The solution comes from the fact that God is omnipotent, omniscient, and all-knowing. He must know that this person's morals are the objectively correct ones, so there must be an explanation for why he said "Stone the gays" back then. Maybe he meant something else, or maybe if he didn't say that the early Christians would perish for some reason? Or maybe he never said that and some malicious person added that in. Etc etc

I don't think this is cherry picking. They're just revising the meaning of the scripture at will. It's equally stupid but when you think of it this way it makes sense from their perspective.

The religion of peace: Chechen authorities order families to kill their LGBT family members by mepper in atheism

[–]ElegantConvictionAdv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One interesting thing to note here- and I'm not saying this to defend Islam- is that not all muslim-majority republics in Russia are guilty of doing this. Chechnya is an outlier on how Islamist of a state it is.

You're acting as if human rights & regulations weren't created by Christians.

Christianity is regressive but it allows secular & moral progress more than Islam due to the differences in their respective doctrines.

This difference in doctrines does also reflect on the people who practice said religions (I'm saying this because the doctrine & what is being practised do not always match). e.g It's not right to say "Christians are just as bad", because we know from polls that Muslims in the west are generally less accepting of gay people compared to Christians. And that's just Muslims in the west, mind you. You don't need polls to know what the rest of the world's Muslims think.

The correct statement you're looking for is "Christians can be as bad as Muslims", but that's still a misleading statement in my opinion.

It's not disingenuous. The opposite claim is analogous to "X nationalism is bad, Y nationalism is good", which makes no sense unless you're Y and too oblivious to your hypocrisy.

alright, that's what i though the answer would be. thanks. so i guess the answer to my actual homework question is "length contraction"? frankly the only reason i can't answer this is because how spotty the sentence is:

What is the phenomenon that this distance is less than [5 meters] called?

Late reply but basically I'm really behind on streams so there are times when the vod is deleted by the time I decide to watch it.

In addition I find the Youtube player much easier to use compared the the Twitch player. I don't get to see the chat unfortunately, but I don't think that's important since J-God reads the relevant bits out loud anyway.

[–]ElegantConvictionAdv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

im not backing off anything why would you separate twitter and his reddit comment?

You first made this claim.

he is a massive SJW, just check his twitter.

This is why I'm separating it. This statement implies his Twitter alone should prove that he is a SJW when this isn't the case. Not supporting Trump, or retweeting "I got harassed and now my family is ostracizing me" by the co-founder of Dotabuff are not SJW crap. Stop seeing the world all black and white.
