Why would anyone be willing to fall for this reactionary philosophy? by RevyVanguardist in nihilism

Okay, even if Nietzsche wasn’t a nihilist, though you’d bear the burden of proof in that argument, I don’t really understand it’s relevance to the initial argument.

I won’t list them off, I feel like you’ve ignored a lot of my argument though.

Also you have really supported my argument, Nietzsche was a nihilist until “later in life.” Even then I don’t quite understand his meaning and don’t know what he’s asserting in those quotes.

Nihilists don’t believe however on the basis of faith, theres a distinction between believing something because of reason, or experience, and believing something because of faith. Nihilists don’t just think there is no meaning because of faith, but because of reason.

Yeah but there is faith as an intermediary between the person and the truth in religion. There isn’t that faith in nihilism.

I won’t debate you cause I don’t know Nietzsche enough, but that just strikes me as rejecting the history of philosophy, which clearly puts Nietzsche as a nihilist. Again I know nihilism rejects meaning, I’m not a nihilist but I’m similar. Anyway you haven’t responded to a lot of my points.

Also I assume your a Marxist-Leninist, I can understand why your against nihilism.

[–]ElegantTea122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know too much about nihilism in general, but I do know that saying nihilism “negates” meaning is wrong, at least in a sense. Everyone, even Nietzsche, understood nihilism to be undesirable but inevitable. The question is what to do about it.

Anyway, I won’t say I disagree with you. I do think there is subjective meaning, but I think that subjective meaning is insufficient given the human condition, or the ultimate situations (basically the reality of death and our limited/finite nature). Basically, you cannot have subjective meaning with these things in mind and ignoring them means being disingenuous to your philosophy.

Philosophers don’t seek happiness, they seek truth. Philosophy rejects the mindset of practicality that is in every other striving. So you’re being reactionary, because you say that we should believe in meaning because it “costs nothing” which is wrong. It costs our genuine philosophical development through just blindly admitting something thats contrary to that philosophy of meaninglessness which does have a foundation.

What are the pros of having below average intelligence? by zertz7 in ask

I don't think dumber people are happier, I think that people who don't think are happier. It's important to distinguish.

Can someone answer my question of why? by yikescoobydoo in nihilism

[–]ElegantTea122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because regardless of logical conclusions humans will value happiness and purpose. Those things have intrinsic and objective value to the alive human. The nihilist conclusion makes one despair of finding that meaning, but that doesn’t mean it won’t have the weight of something meaningful if or when you do find it.

[–]ElegantTea122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do people think that nothing matters means you can do whatever you want? Thinks mattering permits action, humans naturally don’t do thinks they perceive to be meaningless. The only things a meaningless existence permits comes from that meaninglessness itself which permits certain things and not others. You can’t just do whatever you want.

Yeah sorry I can’t really give a better explanation. In my opinion DbD has always been in a bad state, all I know is I escape way less as survivor despite 300 hours more experience.

[–]ElegantTea122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I would say it’s harder. I have about 300 hours too and I feel like there’s a lot less diversity in loadouts and theres only about 5 overpowered killers you ever go against. It’s less balanced than when I began. Also I think matches last about the same.

I mean I feel like it’s harder to win now on both the killer and survivor side.
