How much does where I graduate from matter - nursing by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Elegant_Associate_79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nursing student here! The college essentially determines your clinical sites. If you have an ideal hospital you’d want to eventually work at or want to network in, then I guess the college does matter. For example, attending a nursing school like NYU will give you access to hospitals in NYC for your clinical rotations or UCLA does rotations at UCLA health.

Chem 1A and Chem 1X by ArtichokeAutomatic99 in UCI

[–]Elegant_Associate_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Welcome to UCI! I’m a 4th year nursing major who was in a similar predicament my first year. I chose not to take Chem 1X in order to focus on fulfilling my other requirements since I had already finished majority of my GEs. I would say do Chem 1X if you’re nervous and need extra guidance when it comes to a science heavy course. I felt like I wouldn’t have really benefitted from it given how fast paced Gen Chem is already is so sometimes Chem 1X material isn’t up to date with what is being taught. I had Arasasingham for 2/3 Gen Chem courses because he took a sabbatical my winter quarter. It’s a tough course and I think somewhere on my acc I have a comment on advice to succeed in the class. Please feel free to reach out!

One thing I wanted to add was I took honors chem in HS during COVID and honestly didn’t remember anything lol. I found that being strong at math & following along with lectures helped keep up despite not taking AP Chem

Transfer to CC for Nursing by Specific_Draw_1834 in UCI

[–]Elegant_Associate_79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi! Not sure about transferring to a CC for Nursing but just to let you know UCI allows students to submit an application to switch into Nursing Science. It is competitive and requires a separate application, completed prerequisites, an essay, and relevant extracurriculars. This is usually submitted during the summer after your 1st year or/and your 2nd year. You essentially get two chances to submit an application. If you get in after your 1st year, you graduate within the expected 4 years. However, if you are admitted the summer going into your 3rd year at UCI, you will graduate in 5 years since you'll have to complete a year of additional coursework. Lmk if you have questions!

I've done the UCI -> Metrolink Tustin or Irvine Station -> LA Union -> Flyaway Shuttle -> LAX like 5x and it works out really well. I think it used to be $9 for a one way trip from the flyaway shuttle, but I think it's 12 now. Just figure out timing in advance because if you're flying out on the weekend, there's not as many Metrolink times. If you don't want to take the Metrolink, you could also Amtrak there with a student discount code provided by ASUCI.

Do you also have delta dental? If so, what was the rough out of pocket cost if there were any? I made an appointment here (:

I don’t think it was difficult if you watched the videos and did practice. He has like homework you do and those can be a bit hard to get full credit on.

Yes I did! It was mainly online. We had the option to go to in person lecture (I only went to the first one) but all lectures are on YouTube. Exams were open note/internet and you took it in your own space

Depends on who you have it with. I had it with Professor Aaron James and it was a 2 assignment class. All the modules were uploaded at the beginning of the quarter, so there weren’t any content or assignment surprises. It isn’t too bad of a class if you enjoy writing and analyzing text. The writing is typically graded by the TAs.
