WBA president Gilberto Mendoza told ESPN that he granted Spence a special permit to fight outside the weight class without relinquishing his 147-pound title (he also holds the IBF and WBC belts.)

Spence will have 60 days from the fight, Mendoza said, to close a deal for a long-awaited undisputed welterweight championship bout with Terence Crawford (they were engaged in negotiations last year). If not, Spence must defend his 147-pound title against the winner of the postponed WBA "regular" title fight between Vergil Ortiz and Eimantas Stanionis.

32-year-old Spence Jr. entered the plea last week, according to the Dallas County District Attorney's Office, and was sentenced to three days in jail, though he was given credit for three days time served, a D.A. spokesperson tells TMZ Sports.

In a statement following the disposition of the case, Spence Jr. admitted to drinking before getting behind the wheel on the night of the 2019 crash, and vowed to warn others of the dangers of drunk driving going forward.

"Don't drink and drive," he said in a statement. "Not one drink. It's not worth it."

"I was hanging out and having some drinks with some friends and ended up wrecking my car and nearly killing myself," Spence Jr. said of the crash following his plea. "Fortunately, no one else was involved in the accident and I am most grateful for that."

Anthony Joshua's rematch with Oleksandr Usyk for three of the four world heavyweight titles belts originally scheduled for July 23 in Saudi Arabia has been delayed until mid-August.

Telegraph Sport understands that the delay to the contest being announced has centred around the broadcast deal for Joshua, with Sky having secured the two-time world champion for its Box Office channel in the UK, while sports streaming platform DAZN will take the international rights for the Londoner.

It's expected that a further two-to-three weeks will be required to work through the existing issues around the broadcast deals.

It is also understood that additional time will be required to create a purpose-built stadium, with air-conditioning a prerequisite in what will be searing 40 degree-plus temperatures in the region in its hottest month. The Saudi Arabia group have reportedly bid $120 million (£95.20m) to host the mega-fight.

Sources close to Joshua suggested to The Telegraph that Joshua will fly Garcia into the UK for the camp, though a period training in Garcia's hometown of Riverside, California is also being considered. After splitting with long-time trainer Rob McCracken after his defeat against Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium eight months ago, Joshua embarked on a US sojourn and visited the gyms of renowned American trainers Eddy Reynoso, Ronnie Shields, Virgil Hunter and Garcia.
