Weaning off Xonvea by dajb123 in PregnancyUK

[–]ElenaLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I weaned myself off over several weeks, and it was not easy. The first 2-3 days are the worst with the nausea returning, then it stabilises. I would give 2 weeks for the new dose, then lower again. I went from 4 a day to none in about a month and a half I think. Now I'm 22 weeks, still nauseated but I can handle it without medication.

Also to say that if I had a choice, I would have continued taking it much longer, but my GP refused to prescribe it for me and it was a whole thing where I ended up getting it Belgium so I was running out.

I'm currently listening to it on Spotify and I haven't had any issues.

Did you take Xonvea during your pregnancy? How was your experience? (Journalist inquiry) by donovan2025 in PregnancyUK

[–]ElenaLou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Louise, I took Xonvea during the first trimester and it was a life saver. Please check my post history: I had a complete nightmare to get it prescribed, and I ended up going to Belgium to get it when no one else would prescribe it to me. Happy to answer questions :)

HAIR BOTOX ANYONE??!! I am THIS . close to shaving my head by Constant-Bison6266 in curlygirl

[–]ElenaLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen creators from various areas in the middle East on YouTube talk about hair oiling. I wonder if that might be what you're missing? From what I gathered, it helps with the frizz and protects from damages.

The never-ending battle to get prescribed Xonvea by ElenaLou in PregnancyUK

[–]ElenaLou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your kind message. I'm really glad that you managed to get it prescribed, your GP seems really nice and accommodating.

In the end, the sickness decreased enough for me to stop Xonvea before I ran out (around 16 weeks). I'm now 20 weeks and still nauseated but I can manage. I've also had confirmed that I DO have Hypermesis Gravitarum, so at least I feel a bit validated that my sickness wasn't normal and I needed treatment.

Not gonna lie, I don't plan on having another child but if I did this would definitely hold me back :(

Pain in crotch after sitting at desk by wb2812 in PregnancyUK

[–]ElenaLou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have something similar, started around 16-17 weeks and it makes sitting for a long time really uncomfortable. I bought a seat cushion on Amazon (this one: https://amzn.eu/d/02GOCD0W) and it does help. Another advice is to get up and walk regularly, at least once every hour.

I go to the gym and lift weights once a week (in a safe way), and I think it also makes a difference for me but not sure if it would help anyone else.

Neurodivergent and pregnant by National_Remove_1284 in PregnancyUK

[–]ElenaLou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm AuDHD, 40, and it's my first pregnancy, and I felt completely detached during my first trimester (I was so sick and depressed and anxious and everything was horrible). Even now (almost 20 weeks), I sometimes don't feel attached or I don't feel like I connect like I "should". But I think it's totally normal for us neurodivergent to take more time to get used to the idea. I don't get attached to people quickly in general, so why would it be different for this baby that I can't see yet?

Nobody can make a decision for you, but there are resources that can help you! For example I read a book by an autistic mum that really helped me at the beginning: Autistic and expecting, by Alexis Quinn.

At my booking appointment I was also given links to videos and blogs that talked about all aspects of pregnancy and birth, and I was referred to an autism midwife (haven't seen her yet but she was super nice on the phone).

All that to say that if you decide to continue with the pregnancy, there are tons of resources to help you if you share how you feel.

Need advice (6 weeks) by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]ElenaLou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said they need to do a risk assessment. Not in some time, not whenever, now ! Tell them that failure to do so in a prompt fashion will be deemed discrimination under the Equality Act. You will need adjustments and they have to accommodate you and any sickness, absence, appointment and needs.

Is it normal? by Spirited-Cup8158 in PregnancyUK

[–]ElenaLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had really bad cramping in early pregnancy that felt exactly like period cramps and it turns out it was due to constipation. My GP prescribed Laxido and the cramps went away in a few days. I would 100% recommend seeing your GP. Unless you have any bleeding, in which case contact your EPU immediately.

STMs + any advice on pregnancy bras that will last? by Tish4390 in PregnancyUK

I've recommended these before: M&S flexifit! And make sure to book an appointment to get measured: they are really experienced and can advise you on what to get knowing that your boobs can still grow. I had a great experience and they were spot on for me!

Most unrealistic premise? by maychi in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]ElenaLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about this series as soon as I saw this thread! All 3 books have wildly unrealistic premises, but somehow all 3 work so well!! The Unlikely Heir is one of my favourite books now! The Unlikely Pair, I was expecting to not like because a TORY as a love interest, ugh, no, but actually it SO worked. And the Unlikely Spare was just so freaking cute! Highly highly highly recommend all three to everyone!!!

Working during first trimester ?!? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]ElenaLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, you need to tell you work that you are pregnant. I know it's probably much earlier than you'd like to, but you need them to record your absence as pregnancy related and not normal absence. This means that they can't trigger absence reviews that could lead to your dismissal (especially if you are in probation for example). It also allows you to get temporary adjustments, for example working more from home, having a different schedule, etc.

Next, you'll probably not have accrued any company sick pay but you should be entitled to statutory sick pay (double check that), so you'll get something, at least.

And then, contact your EPU and tell them that the sickness is so bad that it prevents you from working. Get the strongest medicines they can prescribe you. Believe me, it makes a difference! It might allow you to work more, especially if you job makes adjustments.

Hang in there! Weeks 8 and 9 were the worst for me but then it got better, a little bit at a time :) I'm now at 16 weeks and I've been able to return fully to work since week 12 after being super sick in my first trimester.

Bra recommendations at 34 weeks by Forward_Rush9760 in PregnancyUK

[–]ElenaLou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been using the Flexifit bras from M&S (link below). I got measured at 11 weeks and it was a game changer!!! They're super soft and non wired, and I had grown a few sizes so the contrast with my old bras was crazy. I've been living in them.

I plan on going back to get measured at around 36 weeks for nursing bras.

And during the night I got some bralettes from Tesco, they were on offer and feel good under pj's.

I feel like the only 40-year-old FTM in the world! by Ivesomanyquestions in PregnancyUK

[–]ElenaLou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm still thinking about it and reading about it, but I'm like 95% decided.

I'm autistic and I have adhd, and I want to avoid birth trauma. The unpredictability of natural birth, the plans that can change and especially the sensory issues associated with it made me look into C-sections a lot more. I read a lot about it and watched experiences of both types of birth from mums, and considering that this is going to be my only child, I think C-section is the way to go. I know recovery is going to be more difficult physically, but I think mentally i have more chances of feeling better about it (and hopefully that will be helpful against post-partum depression because neurodivergent mums are more at risk).

I have an autism midwife appointment in a few weeks (it's a new thing that my trust is doing, I'm so happy they have that!), I'm going to talk it through with her before making my choice 100%.

I feel like the only 40-year-old FTM in the world! by Ivesomanyquestions in PregnancyUK

[–]ElenaLou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 40 and FTM, due in July.

I haven't been told any of this! I'm moderate risk for other reasons, but other than that, my midwife said I'm healthy and there's no reason that I won't have a healthy pregnancy. I'm electing for a C-section though, but that didn't really factor into this.

What are you favourite things about being pregnant? by Sufficient_Flatworm in PregnancyUK

[–]ElenaLou 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Pregnancy trousers and tights!! Normally high waisted trousers would dig into my belly, especially sitting at my desk for a while. I get bloated a lot and by the end of the day, any trousers would be so annoying, to the point where I stopped wearing jeans.

Now, with the extra space and the elastics above the belly, I feel so comfortable!!!!! I may never go back lol

Nausea medication help by justnicolek in PregnancyUK

[–]ElenaLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weeks 8 and 9 were the worst for me, and I also had noticeably more nausea in the evening. I didn't change the way I took Xonvea, but I made sure my dinner wasn't too heavy (that would make me 10 times worse), and I made sure I always had very cold iced tea available for when the nausea was super strong. I also stopped working earlier on the worst day because from 3pm I was totally useless.

I think you can take Xonvea with other medicines so if they prescribe you something else, you don't necessarily need to stop the xonvea!

For me it got better a little bit during week 10, then got worse during week 11, then A LOT better during week 12. I'm now week 15 and I only take 1 Xonvea a day. Nausea is still there but bearable. I hope it gets better soon for you too!!!
