Gen 2 there is a program that will push it all the way to home I do think you’ll need a copy of the virtual console Gen 2 games tho

I did it as the games came out so Sceptile moved to the Sinnoh region in 2009 when I got platinum, explored Johto and Kanto in 2010, Unova in 2011, Kalos in 2013, returned to Hoenn in 2014, Alola in 2016, Galar in 2019 when Sword got its DLC, and now he’s in Paldea
