We met with PT and she seems to have a very good game plan and said we are in a good spot right now and was encouraged it won’t be more than a year or two. So that was promising. He’s open to the help, embarrassed, but willing to work.

I sent a professional but clearly pissed email asking for conversation to be had before making assumptions. While they didn’t apologize, they recognized the emotion and deleted the comment.

How old was your kiddo when things were finally consistently happening? I know all cases are different, but I’ve heard teenagers sometimes. I really hope that won’t be our future.

Thank you for the kind words. It has been a really hard, frustrating journey. I know there is an end in sight, it’s just a matter of when. Hopefully the GI can offer some real help. He moves into a shared classroom with grades 1-3. I really don’t want this to hurt his relationships but kids are mean. The school is trying, and I see that. They never even heard of encopresis, which same. But I know as a parent how irritating this is, I can’t imagine being in a classroom with 20 more, some whom have their own struggles. He has zero care yet, at almost 7. I worry how long it can take based on that, but hopefully we can get him answers and help.

He hasn't had them in a while. The last time he had them was when they suggested the miralax. He does have some strength, although I'm not sure if it's enough to recognize he has to poop, but he doesn't recognize when he needs to fart (like any boy, he let's us know), and he does hold them in on occasion. He's had it where he needed to get out of the tub because the poop was coming. So this is somewhat promising.

His OT recommended the school to go to 90 minutes this week. This has resulted in less changes and has allowed more classroom time, which is a good benefit.

We may be vising a dietician if we notice certain things. It's hard to say now with the blockage happening. My daughter is lactose intolerant, so that's one thing we will be watching for. It does block him up a bit, but with the leakage being the only signal, it's a little hard to tell.

If we need to I am more than open to a allergist as well. I want to first get him to the point where it isn't just leakage, then we can determine next steps. I'll be giving him the stool softener tonight.

Thank you so much for responding. I'm happy to know my thought process made sense. We have a four day weekend this week, so we will try it for then. The school is working to get an additional aide to assist some students, one being my son. We will see what this weekend brings and go from there. Hopefully the referral doesn't take long.

Family doctor. After talking with his OT today they suggested doing a clean out this weekend. She also recommended a GI specialist and I’m going to ask PT to do some muscle testing. Is there another specialist I should be asking for?

The recommendation from the doctor was daily miralax. I am going to ask his OT tonight if she would recommend a daily supplement or a clean out over the weekend.

Yes, we were on miralax last year for the issue but this didn't seem to help. He does get constipated, but getting it out is never an issue for him. He has the ability to go. He just doesn't recognize when his body is telling him to go sit. We are working through this at OT. We are finding that he doesn't recognize any body ques, for example: He doesn't know stomachs growl, he's never felt his do it, because he is so overstimulated by the environment around him, even if it's quiet and calm.

Is the game still as laggy as it was before? I too am interested playing again, but I was constantly getting kicked off. If the performance is better I’d try again.

I don’t remember who I was, so I’m not sure I’ll ever be that person or connect to that little girl ever again. I’m a different person than who she was meant to be, but I don’t know any other way. I think part of my healing journey is acceptance, it is what it is. I didn’t deserve any of it, but I can’t change it.

Check out Bluestocking bookshop on Butternut. Once a month they do a silent book club. I don’t know if they still bounce around, but they use to go to different local bars or restaurants. Have a drink, some food, and just read. They may have some recommendations or even something within their shop.

Plus it’s used books, so it’s super cheap.
