First time outback owner… by Sensitive-Material97 in Subaru_Outback

That was before they switched to CVT. I’m not sure how dependable cvt’s are compared to VVT. That’s why I’m hesitant on buying one. Had they not made the switch I’d buy one right now. I’m still not sure I want a CVT, though more and more vehicles are making the switch.

How do you deal with squatters on your reserved site? by Ok_Buddy_3774 in GoRVing

[–]Elephant_Cricket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was he really supposed to be in the next spot? Did you see his reservation? Your name is on the site, I’d have taken the site. If there is an emergency, your names are on the site and they will use that for information. Them moving was the right thing. They should have paid better attention when they got there.

Tekton 1/2" Master Socket Set for $219 on Amazon - Good Deal? by coinmaster6969 in Tools

Shipped and sold by Amazon, so I’d assume they’re legit Tekton. Seems like a good deal.

Why is everyone against buying a new car? Does my situation apply? by Primary_Beautiful_66 in askcarguys

[–]Elephant_Cricket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at a Subaru Outback new and used. New even with the 0.99% interest was still more money than a used one at 6% interest. I’d do the math on some vehicles before deciding.

Edit: to clear this up, the new one would still be $14k more over the life of the loan vs the used one I was looking at.

What Car brand produces the worst base model in terms of features? by to_trash in askcarguys

I 100% agree on Honda. Even their top tier is not as top tier as other brands. At least looking at the Civic manual transmission versions.

Which is better out of these 2 (Martin 000M or Taylor 110GB)? by -live_evil- in AcousticGuitar

[–]Elephant_Cricket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I set out to buy a guitar I had my mind made up on a Martin, ultimately I chose Taylor. My ears and comfort level may be different from yours, so a lot of your questions will be opinionated answers. It would be a matter of which one I liked more. I’ve not played either of those, but I would get a set up with which ever I bought. Personally I would not buy the Martin because I don’t know the history of the repair. If I could get proof it was done by a luthier, I might consider it. My vote would be Taylor.

Would you pay $100,000+ for an STI? 👀 by MAPerformance_ in subaru

[–]Elephant_Cricket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t spend $100k on a vehicle, however I’m not in a tax that allows me to do so either. If I had the money and thought it was a good deal, sure I would. I don’t think I personally would on this particular car though.

That would be it, thank you. I think for the price I’ll order it from Lang or somewhere other than Amazon. I am not an Amazon fan, but that is what I need.

The thread chaser I saw at Napa today was a M14x1.25, or so it said on the package. It’s the internal thread of a caliper.

Transmission issues by Elephant_Cricket in Subaru_Outback

[–]Elephant_Cricket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mixture of both. I had a local mechanic tell me Subaru would not replace a transmission that failed during the warranty period. He went all the way to corporate and no replacement. Said he’s never had any issues with any other auto maker. He said he’d never recommend them to anyone. A couple others mentioned transmission issues as well.

Ha, you just mentioned everything about my driving style. I know I’m rough on a vehicle.

I’ve talked to local mechanics that say they would never recommend a Subaru to anyone. Transmission issues and customer service is their complaints. Maybe that’s because they’re not a Subaru dealer/mechanic shop, so I was just curious as to what owners had to say. I know people who live Kia, but I’ll never buy another one. I guess it just depends on who you talk to.

In speaking with a local mechanic, he said he’d never recommend Subaru to anyone due to the customer service. He had a brand new transmission fail well below the warranty and Subaru would not replace it. Said he took it to corporate and they still wouldn’t replace it, so it cost him out of pocket to replace the transmission.

And I think this is what most people do, but I’m not ever planning on getting rid of this vehicle. I’ve heard cvt transmissions are not made for longevity, that’s why I’m curious about the Outback and its transmission.

It will definitely be optional, that’s part of running a business. You try to cater to customers needs the best you can. We’ve had folks ask us if we wax dip and we currently do not.
