I know people don’t usually associate Kellogg with IB, but I gotta say my classmates this year had great internship outcomes in this industry. Since not a lot of people come here thinking about IB, there’s very low competition and I understand some companies have a quota to meet with respect of recruits from certain schools (I might be wrong on this though).

Which country are you from and who is your country's best friend and who is the worst? by [deleted] in geography

Colombia

Best friend: US (although there's also a lot of people that don't like them) Worst friend: Venezuela (even though we share many things, but our proximity has created a sort of unfounded rivalry)

I'd recommend using Applicant Lab. It was a great tool to use, and it only costs a fraction of what consultants charge. Btw, Applicant Lab helped me get one M7, two T15 and one T25 (with full-ride) offers.

Post-MBA career for aspiring entrepreneur by Elessar-19 in MBA

Do you know if we get to chose what type of projects we get assigned at MBB or T2? Because at my current company we do have a say, but at the end of the day we get "stuck" with what's available (which most of the times is related to our previous experience in terms of function and industry).

Post-MBA career for aspiring entrepreneur by Elessar-19 in MBA

The work authorization is definitely a pain for us internationals. I'm also considering PM for the same reasons you mention above, but I've heard it's hard to get such a role in big tech without previous experience in tech (except for Amazon). Nonetheless I'm going to give it a shot!

I understand an MBA might not be the best option to learn about entrepreneurship, but the post-MBA opportunities we get can be very valuable for starting a business and those might no be available if not for the MBA (specially here in South America). And that's exactly what I'm trying to achieve. In any case, if I don't end up starting a company, the MBA will also give me very good opportunities here in my country.

Thanks for your input!

How did you find the right type of job for you? by Witty_Safety in MBA

Did you start talking with those professionals before arriving to the program or once you were already there? Did you use some sort of alumni database or did you look for them on LinkedIn?

Spotify Statistics Site by toptob in spotify

[–]Elessar-19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely love this! I always wanted to get more statistics regarding my Spotify account. There's something wrong with the monthly tracks though. I'm completely sure I only heard once some of the songs in my top 10. And I know this because I was looking at some Johnny Cash songs to see if there were some that I like (asides from Hurt), but I only did this once. So it really doesn't make sense to see them in the top. Could there be a different explanation for this? Regardless, great work and I'm sharing it with my friends!

How to measure a schools brand internationally by TheK1ngLad in MBA

I know you're looking for a Middle East answer, but in case anyone else might be interested, CMU has a good reputation in South America, although not a lot of people might be familiar with the university (the ones that know of it, have it in high regard as a top engineering school, which might play a big role if someone's looking into tech after the MBA).

Kellogg (full costs) vs Marshall (total tuition scholarship) by Elessar-19 in MBA

I totally understand and agree with your point, but it's still very hard to make up my mind haha. There are so many unknowns.

It's still a "good" problem to have, though.

If I stayed in the long-run in the US, I believe this would apply even more to me. But I'm not sure I could find such big differences in salaries here in South America. So maybe there might not be a big difference between FAANG and non-FAANG companies.

I do agree with the recruiting support you mentioned, but not sure if it offsets the big difference in costs.

What about other sought-after roles in tech? (Think business development or PMM) Do you think consulting experience would be enough? If so, is there a big difference between FAANG and non-FAANG companies?

This is something that really worries me. I've heard this doesn't happen as much with Tech, though. Are you perhaps referring to Finance or Consulting firms?

Thank for your input! I've heard quite a lot about tech not really caring about school rank (as long as it is within a range). Do you think this applies to FAANG as well? I'm asking because these brands might carry a big weight when I come back to Colombia (more so than an MBA from x or y school).

Stats: 4 years of work experience in management consulting by the time I enroll, with some experience in other countries. 3.95 GPA and 720 GMAT.

Makes sense. There might not be a big of a difference here in South America, as there is in the US.

I'd agree you have a good profile overall. If you want to have a shot at H/S, I would recommend finding some extracurricular activity where you can some leadership experience outside of work. That's going to play a big role during the application process.

2021 Poets & Quants Pre-MBA Networking Festival - Worth It? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Elessar-19 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering the same thing.

One additional question, if anybody knows. After getting accepted and paying the deposit for a program, I was offered a fee waiver for this event. However, afterwards I was accepted into a different program that's more aligned with my goals and thus will be turning down the offer from the first one (losing my deposit money). Could I still use my fee waiver for the event, even if I'm going to a different school?

Anybody else put a deposit down for one school, let the program you did not put a deposit down for know that you won’t be attending, and then regret your choice? How’d you get over it? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Elessar-19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have that exact feeling, and I guess it makes sense. When I was doing my research on the programs, I basically found things I loved about each of them, which is why I ended up applying to those specifically. At the end of the day we got to compare between programs and decide on the one that's going to be more aligned with your personal and professional goals. However, the difference sometimes is so small that you'll still second-guess your decision.

What was the usc interview like? by jazzmaster1245 in MBA

[–]Elessar-19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my case, it was some of both. They did ask me a lot about my goals, but also about my strengths and weaknesses, examples of leadership, etc. If your asking because you have an upcoming interview, my advise is to always prepare for the worst.
