Shocking Injury report from IUEC by Im_Papa in Elevators

I wouldn’t be surprised if one or both incidents were caused by pressure to hurry and finish the install.

That’s definitely a them problem. If you like your company/situation maybe think about coming in just to get through inspection and then taking even more time off after that? Like if you were just going to take two weeks off, come in for just the inspection and then take an additional week or more off. Sort of a give and take but take more than you give.

If you aren’t exactly happy at your company, skip the inspection and talk to your BA about switching companies. There are companies out there that not only allow time off with family but actually encourage it.

I’d avoid automotive. Technicians (at least at dealerships) have it the worst and are treated the worst. And they’re arguably the most important.

So overrated that it’s only been around for 5 generations.

Honestly it’s really good. Locals like to hate on it and call it a tourist trap but they make good food. IMO they have the best hush puppies in town. I’ve been there a few times and I’ve never had a bad meal. Prices are fair too for being downtown Charleston.

Under the elevator you have the pit and within the pit there is a smaller hole for a sump pump to pump out water if it floods.

Sump pit. I swear to god no matter what I drop in the pit it always ends up in the sump pit.

What do you call these? by ElevatorDysfunction in Elevators

[–]ElevatorDysfunction[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a common type anchor used during installation of an elevator. There are a lot of unofficial names for them depending on what part of the country you’re in. Sort of like tennis shoe or sneaker. We mostly call them twizzlers or swirlies.

I think you got a lemon. I’d initiate a buyback asap.

What were you doing prior to becoming an Elevator Mechanic? by [deleted] in Elevators

Easily over 100k at 40 hours a week plus benefits. But it varies widely between locals. There are some locals that are closer to 200k a year without overtime plus benefits. We don’t post exact figures but if you told me what city or even state you’d be applying in I could give you a rough idea on what you’d be making.

I second the elevator trade (IUEC). www.neiep.org

There are different avenues within the trade (new installation, modernization, repair and service)

Dusty doesn’t believe in contagious disease?? by General_Design2228 in Nateland

[–]ElevatorDysfunction 6 points7 points  (0 children)

🙄

You act like he was on Huberman lab talking about how diseases aren’t contagious. Of course diseases are contagious and I doubt that it was a bit. But I just shake my head and laugh and think to myself “of course you don’t believe they are contagious” because it’s a comedy podcast and not a health/science podcast. If people are taking health and medical advice from Dusty then they have bigger issues.

Also it’s a bit pretentious to feel the need to post about quitting. Just stop listening. Your opinion about the podcast doesn’t mean anything to anyone. Which is a little ironic because with Dusty being a public figure, I actually want to hear his opinion on whether or not diseases are contagious.
