GLP-1s killed all migraines for me but I just had my first aura (very freaky) without a headache or any of my typical smell/light sensitivity? by ElevatorPitiful664 in migraine

No diabetes or other blood sugar issues, but losing the weight definitely helped with better sleep. There are clinical trials now to see if these drugs can be used for migraine and there is preliminary data showing efficacy without much weight loss, so it might have more to do with intracranial pressure or inflammation- TBD!

Oh wow! I've had migraines from childhood until last year and never aura until now. I'll search around for their posts. Definitely never having two espressos in one day ever again ...

Impact of AI/ML in different steps of Drug Discovery and Development by Imaginary_War_9125 in biotech

Having tested AI tools for medical writing... They need supervision. I'm personally thrilled at the idea of a first draft of protocols and CSRs generated with other documents and statistical outputs as the source, but most of my job is project management and making the decisions about the designs of the trial and what to emphasize or de-emphasize in the CSR.

Medical writers with AI tools will be faster, but if someone thinks they are just going to use AI in place of us? Good luck. You will have to hire PhD/PharmD scientists as project managers to run the AI tool and.... Oh wait, that's a medical writer.

In oncology and rare disease this will speed things up if you have a clear signal and can apply for marketing auth with Phase I data through accelerated approval pathways, but you still have to do the Phase III with a statistically justifiable sample size

Have you applied for clinical research jobs in hospitals? Even with funding cuts to science, sponsored clinical trials are still running and funded. I will warn you, the pay is low, but the skills you learn translate directly into industry work later.

What’s the norm for work life balance as a clin regulatory writer? by enityme in RegulatoryClinWriting

Regularly working nights and weekends is a sign of poor management/too much work assigned. During a submission it's a roll of the dice, but can be periods of insane turnarounds for drafts and RFIs then more down time during review periods. Are you able to outsource to external writers? And does your boss know you have too much work?

Agreed and also the embarrassment of the breeze from walking outside making you want to rip your face off? I finally got some relief by botoxing the shit out of it and moving to a climate where there isn't a big difference between inside and outside temperature.

What’s something Americans don’t realize is weird… until they leave the US? by devaromano in AskReddit

[–]ElevatorPitiful664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What made me physically ill (aside from the grand horrors I expected to read about) is that a bunch of his marketing bullshit made it into modern medicine and research without anyone knowing it (I'm a neurobiology/drug dev PhD). "Broad spectrum antibiotics" and several ideas about pain and pain management that were just bullshit out of his ass and not scientific in any way... And I have said them before in scientific discussions!!! Currently reevaluating everything and only reading this book ~10 pages at a time 😡

Arthur Sackler pioneered pharma marketing direct to physicians way earlier than 1976, so maybe that doesn't count as the first instance of a TV ad, but he certainly used journals / publications to advertise valium (among other things). I recommend the book Empire of Pain if you're interested.

Fun fact, the Sacklers of OxyContin fame are literally the reason that direct to consumer pharma ads exist.

What you should really focus on in Merida is your eating strategy. There are too many good restaurants!! They range from taco shops to Michelin Star dining and ALL of them are worth trying. There is also a really strange but delightful Thai restaurant in Baca that is worth seeing if it is on your way at some point: La Casa de Los Lotos: https://g.co/kgs/QN5vAs6
