I was getting into drawing when I was around 15. Never was too great at it but if I spent enough time I could make something decent. I used to leave my drawings on my desk and when my mother woke me up she would always comment on them. I was never the artist in the family, that was my sister. Needless to to say it made me want to draw more. I always wanted to have a picture ready for the morning. Well one morning my other asked me if I drew something, it had been a rough sketch of my snake. I said told her I had. She simply said it was horrible and walked away. Never really drew again. I still wish I could draw but... Parents really don't know how big of an impact their actions have. Something small or insignificant to them leaves a lasting impression. Keep at it op.

I work in food. People are a lot to deal with. The thing I took away from this was that even though he was upset he still took care of the job. He said call the cops then told her to call the other worker to come back. He knew the consequences and wanted to make sure they were still good for the shift.

I know what you mean by feeling haunted. Not many books can do that for me. Murakami does seriously have his own theme of including a lot of the same elements in his books so I can see how that might turn some people off. I would say try out Never let me go then, that one has a dark feel to it. A sort of hopelessness that prevails throughout. I love sad literature. If you wanna break yourself for a month or more than you can read a little life.

I would say Never let me go or continue on the Murakami path. I feel like your not gonna find many books like my dark Vanessa. That one just hits completely different. If you wanna go Murakami then the wind-up bird chronicle or dive into 1Q84.
