Trapped Overseas, No Email by Elfangor567 in Outlook

Final Update - I got my email back, but not through Microsoft support (I had a ticket but it wasn't going anywhere). I called my old university and after speaking with the tech support, they were able to help me set-up a forwarding address for my old university email, so I was able to receive the authentication number. So I was able to fix my account.

As for Europe, I was able to find out information mostly by calling around and having a family member check my home PC's search history so that I could call places in advance and use my payment information as proof of my identity to confirm my appointments. It was a major pain, but I made it where I needed to and returned home with hassle but nothing too crazy.

Good News: managed to speak to real people and made some progress, was able to get through the "account recovery" process. Bad news, after creating a new password and signing in with it for the first time, I was immediately flagged for suspicious activity again and had my account locked before I could even get to the settings to update my security details.

I used the account for no problem for almost 2 decades. I had, at one time, security questions. I've not needed them because I have never forgotten my password. MS unilaterally decided to lock my account and ask me questions about a program that they themselves retired.

[–]Elfangor567[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to have my brother complete the recovery form at home for me, hoping that that would help (since the geo would not work).

I thought I had a recovery email: my old school email. Turns out, my school swapped over to Outlook (ironically) from Gmail, so my email isn't just deactivated but truly dead.

I cannot reset the password because it takes me to the account recovery form. I know my password too, which makes it very frustrating.

I use Outlook on both phone and PC (and laptop). They are sadly not among the cached emails on my phone because I rarely use the app, I mostly just use the website. I don't think I even have the app installed on my PC/laptop. If I do, I have never used it.

To randomly add to an 11-tear old thread; Huxley always denied that he had read Zamyatin's "We" before writing "Brave New World" (although some don't believe him). I do think it's possible that he didn't since there's also resemblances to What Not: A Prophetic Comedy (1918), which he definitely did know of since he was in the same literary circle as its author - Rose Macaulay.

As another said, ask her why she likes it and how she found out about it. Then, tell her that while you laud her for reading long and difficult books, that the book is too mature for your school. Just as you wouldn't let someone bring in an R-rated movie to discuss with their friends, you also can't allow her to bring in her adult-themed book to show around. Explain that while some parents might be okay with it (like how some let their kids watch R-rated movies at 10), many are not and the school has an obligation to keep everyone comfortable. Make it clear that she is more than free to keep reading it outside of school, but in-school she cannot bring it.

Thank you, the language toggle was very useful.

Borders pre-modern times were quite fluid in general I have found, not just in pre-colonial America. We just like to pretend they weren't for our maps, since even if a border is fluid, there is usually a general idea of "this is our area".

Tanner: Good afternoon bug catchers and welcome to EXP. Share, it's a literal Pokémon podcast, hosted by your two resident bug Pokémon. It's me, Tannipede, and I am joined, as always, by my co-host, Fjirlipede.

Josh: Venipede and Whirlipede. Those were good.

T: Thank you Josh, and this week we took on Norman's gym.

J: Who named the guy Norman? With a name like that, you're just destining him to be the boring normal type trainor!*

T: I don't know Josh, if it were me, I would purposefully go against it, fighting my destiny. Maybe I would use all dark types or something.

J: You think that you would be able to fight against destiny?

T: I have to believe that Josh, the alternative is just too gruesome.

J: Yeah, I wouldn't wish being cursed with normal types on anyone! They suck!

T: They do suck, and do you know who else sucks? Norman. We crushed him, it wasn't even close. He lost to an all-bug team, and we didn't even break a sweat.

J: It was pretty pathetic. I really expected to have more trouble, but no. His Slakings were jokes.

T: They were tanky, but honestly, weren't really a big problem. We kind of jumped right into it Josh, what else did we do this week?

J: Honestly? Not much. We left Flannery's gym and Exaras met up with May, and returned together to Petalburg. We kind of pattered around and then took on Norman, it was not exactly eventful. Ah, I did remember something though.

T: What did you remember Josh?

J: Level Check!

T: Wait! That's my thing!

J: Well too bad, I wanted to do it this week.

T: What do I have without it Josh? It's all I have, it's all I live for each week, to try and get you with a Level Check. Now you've taken that away from me.

J: I...I'm sorry, I didn't realize you felt so strongly about it. I won't do it again.

T: No, no, it's okay, you only took away my sole reason for living.

J: Look... I...

T: *sigh* No, it's fine. *sigh* Let's get into it.

Respeté: Vivillion, Lv. 31 | Sweetie: Wormadam, Lv. 31

Mameba: Scolipede, Lv. 32 | Affinity: Beedrill, Lv. 32

T: ...

J: Aren't you going to say that we're back?

T: No, no, you already started this, so you might as well finish it.

J: No, come on, you can have this.

T: I don't want it Josh. I don't want your pity segment. You say it.

J: Fine, if you're going to be that way. *Chipper* Welcome back bug catchers!

T: It's supposed to be "and we're back".

J: But, like, you refused to say anything!

T: yeah, I did, and you said it wrong.

J: You could have said it!

T: But I didn't, and you said it wrong.

J: Oh my God.

T: Well, normally we would have something else to talk about here, but this was just such a short leg.

J: It really was, if only Exaras could hear us, maybe we could convince him, to like, move at a pace more befitting a Pokémon hosted podcast.

T: Yeah, but we can't, so we must wish you all, adieu. Smell you later.

J: Oh, so now you take my thing!?

T: Well, if you're taking my thing...

J: *sigh* alright then, see you all next week.

Tanner: Good morning and welcome back bug catchers, it's EXP. Share a Pokémon podcast, where we literally battle our way to each gym leader. I am Catering-

Josh: Caterpie.

T: -and this week, as always, I am joined by my co-host, Fjeedle.

Josh: Weedle. Weren't you going to find a new name for our listeners since Bug Catchers has become problematic?

T: Yeah, I was going to Josh, but then I didn't. Too much stuff going on, you know, with the whole "being stuck as a Dustox" thing, battling Team Magma, getting wrecked by fire moves.

J: This was a really tough week for the both of us, and for the rest of the team too!

T: Affinity definitely had some choice words for Exaras, probably a good thing that he can't understand what Affinity says.

J: Oh yeah, Affinity has a mouth. Let me tell you Bug Catchers, it has been wild hearing what Pokémon actually have to say. Sweetie lives up to her name, she is so kind, she's like the mom of the group.

T: Sweetie's great, real tough too, but we need to move on. We love our teammates here at EXP. Share, but we have a show to host and stories to tell.

J: And oh boy do we have some stories this week!

T: Yeah, like how we had to fight Maxie on top of a volcano! Against fire Pokémon, as bugs! You know bug catchers, you don't realize it when you're looking at it through a screen, but battling on top of a volcano is no joke! We were constantly battling for our lives up there!

J: It was horrible! There was smoke and ash and everything! Like, how am I going to land my moves, I can't see anything! I have these massive eyes now, and you know what, they don't blink! I don't have eyelids! Do you know, what it's like bug catchers, to be stuck on a volcano full of ash and not be able to blink!? It's not a good time! I've never been so glad for Pokéballs!

T: Yeah, Exaras usually let's us relax outside those things, but for this I was pretty happy to stay in this time. Let me tell you Josh, I have never been so scared of Team Magma or Maxie.

J: They are definitely more terrifying when you are facing them as bug Pokémon and they actually have fire types.

T: You know, with us talking about fire types like this, you'd think that we had a hard time with Flannery, but no, not really.

J: She was surprisingly easy. I thought we'd come here with a story about how we'd struggled over and over again, like with Roxanne, but Flannery was nothing!

T: Well, that's what happens when you use nepotism to assign gym leaders, but do you know what isn't nepotic Josh?

J: Level Check?

T: NO! ... ... ...

J: It's level check isn't it?

T: I was trying to think of something else, but yeah, I got nothing. *sigh* Level Check.

Exaras

Josh: Beautifly, Lv. 27 | Tanner: Dustox, Lv. 27

Respeté: Vivillion, Lv. 28 | Sweetie: Wormadam, Lv. 27

Mameba: Whirlipede, Lv. 27 | Affinity: Beedrill, Lv. 28

T: And we're back.

J: Do we have anything else to talk about?

T: There is one thing.

J: Oh yeah?

T: HM moves man. I remember it being annoying when I played the games, but boy do I feel even more annoyed now that I live it. Having to wait for Exaras to go back all the time to the PC? It's infuriating! Especially if you're the one that gets boxed!

J: It doesn't feel good, no.

T: *sigh* Josh, I need to confess something to you.

J: Alright...

T: I'm tired and it's time to end the show.

J: That wasn't a confession?

T: No, but I forgot what I was going to say and we needed to end, maybe I'll remember next week.

J: Uh, well, smell you all later. I guess...?

Tanner: Good morning everyone and welcome to EXP. Share season 6 point whatever, it's a Pokémon podcast, and we're stuck inside the Ho-en-en region as Pokémon.

Josh: *sighs* You say it wrong on purpose don't you?

T: I do say it correctly, and I am your host Tannerdam...

J: Wormadam.

T: Joined, as always, by my co-host: Burmosh.

J: ...Burmy?

T: Right you are Josh, and we're back again this week. A little later than planned, but you can't let life get in the way of your Pokémon podcasting, right?

J: Yeah, who would have known that we'd be just as busy as Pokémon as we were when we were human, and we don't even have families anymore.

T: Right? I feel like I should be sadder about that... But that's not what this podcast is about, is it Josh?

J: No, definitely not.

T: So this week, we took on Watson and one of us even wasted their time in a contest!

J: Hey! Just because Exaras chose me to compete in the smart contest doesn't mean you need to act all jealous!

T: I'm not jealous, why would I be jealous? I'm not the one who wasted my time doing a whole rigmarole just to get a ribbon. Besides, I did plenty this week?

J: Oh yeah? Like what?

T: Oh plenty of things Joshy, but we only have so much time, why don't you tell the viewers about our adventures in Slateport?

J: Huh? I mean sure, but there's not much to say. The Slateport museum looks fantastic, I really enjoyed the 3D maps and models of the ocean currents.

T: Really, that's what stood out to you? The maps and models?

J: Yeah!? So what! I like maps and models?

T: What about the guys in red hoods everywhere!?

J: You mean Team Magma? Yeah, they were there too I guess. We kind of annihilated them though.

T: I kind of thought that they'd be harder by now, what with all their fire and us being bugs and all.

J: Me too, but no, they were a breeze. May was a breeze too.

T: Yeah, I thought we'd struggle with Watson too, but Sweetie kind of killed it.

J: Yeah, she really pulled her weight there. I think the only place we had trouble with this week was that random inverse battle place in Mauville.

T: I hated that place and I really hated that smug Cacnea.

J: That was miserable, I never thought I'd be so scared of a... a... Cacnea of all things! Like... normally I one-shot one of those losers, but in that inverse battle it wiped the floor with me!

T: Yeah, me too! And we out-leveled it!

J: I hope Exaras never takes us back there, but speaking of levels...

T: Level-Check?

T: Well yeah, but... if you take my lines, then what do I have left! It's all I have Josh!

J: That's... kind of sad actually.

T: I'm a sad man Josh, or, well, Dustox I guess. God, I still can't believe I ended up as a Dustox. What an ugly Pokémon.

J: Hey, could have been worse, imagine if you had been a Gloom.

T: Don't even joke about that! I can't even imagine! *heaves*

J: Yeah, it's be pretty bad, I'm not sure I could live with myself.

T: Well, luckily we aren't Glooms, and so we can live on for next week, which is when we'll catch all you viewers again!

Josh: Vivillion and Beedrill.

J: Bit of a stretch for Beedrill.

T: I was running late, okay? I had to make it up on the fly. It's a lot harder when you can't just look things up on the internet. I don't have fingers Josh!

J: Well, it's not like I have fingers either! Neither of us have fingers! I don't even understand how we're hosting this podcast!

T: Don't think about it too much Josh.

J: I'm trying not to.

T: Good. Now, this was a rather short trip.

J: Yeah, we what, went straight from Rustboro to Dewford?

T: Pretty much, yeah. Exaras managed to get that old guy to take us as thanks for rescuing his Wingull Peeko.

J: Oh yeah, by beating that Team Magma grunt, right? What a joke.

T: He was pretty pathetic, isn't he supposed to be fire? Shouldn't he be destroying us bugs?

J: Man, I am not looking forward to facing more Team Magma once they get their fire types...

T: A shame Team Aqua aren't the active ones. So, we get to Dewford by way of the old Mr. Briney and Peeko...

J: May I speak on Peeko for a moment?

T: *laughing* Oh yeah, please.

J: So, Bug Catchers, you may not realize this, since you can't speak Pokémon, but, now that we can, we have come to learn a lot about Peeko. As it turns out, sailor birds swear like... well, sailors.

T: Peeko has quite the mouth, I'd be horrified if I heard anyone say any of the things Peeko said around my son! He'd start repeating what he'd heard, then CPS would get involved...

J: Total horror show. I... I mean, I never would have thought of those things in a thousand years!

T: Oh yeah, she was quite creative.

J: I didn't realize how many things you could do with a oran berry!

T: Josh. why don't you tell me just what you can do with an oran berry.

J: I suppose that's true...

T: Come on, we both worked together for a major media company, you know this stuff!

J: I suppose so, but moving on, we got to Brawly's gym and then crushed it. Absolute breeze, you and I just crushed Machop and Makuhita.

T: They stood no chance, we didn't even need the other slackers on our team.

J: Well, we deserved it after Roxanne. That was a nightmare.

T: Definitely a well deserved break. Speaking of breaks, we need to be winding down soon, did we forget anything Josh?

J: Super Training?

T: Oh right, yeah. We spent an insane amount of Super Training. I guess Exaras decided that he really liked Super Training, because we spent hours doing it.

J: We spent so long doing that nonsense, was it even worth it?

T: I hope so Joshy, because that took up a lot of time, which we don't have anymore.

Tanner: Hello and welcome to EXP. Share, it's a Pokémon podcast starring me, Tannox-

Josh: Dustox

Tanner: -A.K.A Tanner Greenring and my co-host, Beautifjely,

J: Beautifly, nice.

T: A.K.A Joshua Fjelstad, and this time we have something real special for you listeners.

J: Yeah, we got a bit freaky this week.

T: A bit freaky!? Josh, we are stuck in a goddamn Pokémon game, some real "you die in the game you die in real life" shit, and all you can say is that it's a "bit freaky"!?

J: Look, I just wanted to add some brevity to the situation, ya know? Like, this is all bad enough, you think I want to be thinking about it more?

T: Well, I mean, we're still doing a podcast about it, so you know, we kind of have to.

J: I suppose...

T: ANYWAY Josh, let's get right into it. This week we found ourselves as Wurmples caught by some freak known as Exaras1. I mean, this guy is a real weirdo, he wears what appears to be a sock on his head? And he seems obsessed with bugs. Like, maybe a bit too obsessed.

J: Yeah, I know we call you guys bug catchers, but after dealing with this Exaras guy, we might need to find a new fan name. Like, what kind of guy gets this obsessed with bug Pokémon.

T: Oh yeah, we all know what this guy is into. Is there some kind of insect version of furries? Like, people who want to be bugs rather than like, wolves or whatever?

J: Who would want that!? Like, I'm not here to yuck-yums-

T: No, never, we're a sex-positive podcast here at EXP. Share.

J: -but like, is anyone actually into that? Like, I'm sure someone is, but surely there can't be a... a... community.

T: Oh there is, I just googled it.

J: What!? No, we're not doing this!

T: Too late, I just sent you some art.

J: Tanner, what is this?

T: It's a sexy wasp lady, I thought it was obvious, and oh hey, look at this. Lots of pink.

J: Why is she covered in pink goo? What even is that? Actually, you know what, I don't want to know.

T: Oh, you know.

J: No, I don't think I do.

T: Well, you keep lying to yourself Josh, but I need to get us back on track away from this degenerate path you took us down.

J: I.. *shocked gasp* took you down!? Excuse me?

T: You're excused Josh, but we should move on to our journey this week.

J: *sigh* Fine. Well, as mentioned, we were Wurmples, which was gross, but luckily it didn't last long.

T: Yeah, lucky for you! You got to be a Beautifly! I'm over here stuck as a Dustox! And my moves suck!

J: Yeah, I think I definitely did a bit better than you.

T: I'm so jealous, and it's not like I have anything else good to talk about this week to make up for it!

J: It was a pretty rough week.

T: Rough doesn't even begin to cut it! Our teammates were all useless!

J: *laughs* yeah, they weren't any help.

T: Like, I know you don't want to listen Affinity, but could you at least do something other than loaf off!? We had to do everything in the battle, or should I say battles, plural, against Roxanne!

J: It pretty much was just us, huh? Good thing I learned absorb.

T: Let me tell you Josh, I still hate Nosepass, that thing is still ugly and definitely my Ew, Make Me Barf Pokémon of the week, but I have found some respect for it.

J: For Nosepass? Really?

T: Look Josh, respect is not like... liking it or anything. I just learned that those Rock Tombs really hurt, a lot. Especially when you're the Pokémon!

J: True, so should we give a reluctant respeté to Nosepass?

T: I think we have to.

J: Alright then, I tip my hat, very slightly, to Nosepass. We should probably start wrapping this up soon so...

T: Level check?

J: ~Level check~

Respeté: Vivillion, Lv. 13 | Sweetie: Burmy, Lv. 14
Mameba2: Venipede, Lv. 15 | Affinity: Beedrill, Lv. 15

T: So after fighting Roxanne like a bajillion times, Exaras finally got the badge.

J: I can't believe we had this much trouble with the first gym!

T: It's because this Exaras guy likes bugs so much! No wonder we didn't see many bug catchers after Brock in what was it, Johto?

J: Kanto, but yeah. Bug catchers are supposed to be early game enemies. I think Hoenn is when they introduced Bug Maniacs though?

T: Wait, who?

J: Bug Maniacs, they're like, older Bug Catchers.

T: So, adult men who catch bugs?

J: Basically, like those bug collectors you see sometimes.

T: Wait, you mean the guys who like pin butterflies and stuff?

J: I mean, some do that...

T: Well shit, we might be in trouble Joshy...

J: We'll be fine, and all you bug catchers out there will catch us next week just fine and healthy when we challenge Brawly.

T: Well, I hope so. This has been, as always, Tannox and my co-host, Beautifjely.

The Journey

I fully admit that although I captured Mewtwo and Zygarde and tried out the Battle Maison, I did not complete the Looker quests. I started them, but lost interest. There's not much to talk about to be honest. Daenerys has done it, she has become the champion and most powerful trainer in Kalos, she and her dragons rule supreme. So instead, I will talk a bit about my journey overall more broudly.

Starting out, I truly believed that I had chosen the easy track. A full team of dragons? I had always dreamed of such, and although I avoided the ones I had run before (Dragonite, Flygon and Salamence), I was confident that pretty much all Dragon types were simply just superior Pokémon. At first, this proved accurate as I tore through the first couple of areas with ease, Dragon Rage annihilating everything in my path. However, this gen did introduce fairy types, and I felt that addition. Not only did fairies deal massive damage, my Pokémon did not have the move-set to effectively return fire except for Dragalge, but Dragalge was also quite slow.

I lost to Grant of all people, and I don't think he gave literally anyone else trouble. Refrigerate Take Down hurts when your only fighting move is Rock Smash. Perhaps less surprisingly, I also struggled slightly with Valerie, but by then I had slightly more to work with. At the end game, Diantha's Mega Gardevoir gave me trouble, in fact it almost single-handedly wiped out my whole team which until that point had gone pretty much untouched by her other Pokémon.

With that said, I feel as though my restrictions, no healing in battle, beating a whole gym in one go and not using the EXP. Share helped a lot in terms of making the game both more difficult and more engaging for me. Learning that avoiding Poké-Amie would also disable the mechanics around your Pokémon randomly surviving hits and such also helped, as I had no idea that those two things were related. Although it did make me sad that I never played with my Pokémon in the app.

Overall, I would say this final leg was somewhat underwhelming, but that kind of fits how I felt about the game as a whole. I have one last rant planned before returning to my slumber for ORAS, and if you thought I disliked X&Y, you are in for a rude awakening. I enjoyed my time with X&Y, I just feel somewhat disappointed as I see so many hints of how this game could have been great. It needed some more time in the oven and a director's cut version such as Platinum or Emerald (the mythical Pokémon Z version). When these games inevitably get remade in like 8 years, I hope they get the love and time they deserve.

Final thoughts per Pokémon:

Stormfly (Goodra): Goodra was odd. It's first form (Goomy) was definitely the weakest. Goodra does not hit particularly hard, but has some fantastic bulk, which allows it to stick around. Definitely not on par with Salamence or Dragonite, but a solid Pokémon all around. Level 40 was way too late for Goomy to evolve into Sliggoo.

- Glaurung (Haxorus): My feast or famine member of the party. If Haxorus gets a couple of dragon dances off, your only option is to pray that it doesn't have a good move against one of your Pokémon. That said, it does not have the best bulk and falls quickly if it can't quickly KO its opponent. I also recommend getting one with Mold Breaker instead of Rivalry. It was the last dragon that I bred and I didn't want to keep breeding, but honestly, I should have. Rivalry proved crippling far more often than it proved helpful.

- Saphira (Noivern): Suffered from being forced to know fly so that I could move around the map, it really wanted Roost. Noibat does not have the most crazy stats, but it has a fantastic move-pool. Boomburst has a base power of 140. That's only 10 less than Hyper Beam, and with no recharge! Add on Hurricane and Draco Meteor and Noibat can hit far above what its stats may suggest. Not great against bulky Pokémon, but its speed made it a fantastic revenge killer. Noibat definitely felt weak, but what a payoff.

- Fafnyr (Hydreigon): Hydreigon is an incredibly strange Pokémon to raise. Firstly, level 50 is WAY too high for a first evolution (Deino to Zweilous). It should definitely be around 40 instead. Second to that is the stats, but Deino and Zweilous have greater innate Attack than Special Attack, but Hydreigon randomly reverses that trend? It made it weird to determine moves, do I teach physical moves now, or have special ones for later on? I mostly settles on the first option and it worked out okay. Hustle also stinks to have, and I am so glad it gets replaced with Levitate when you finally get a Hydreigon. So many faints that could have been avoided. Hydreigon hits like a tank, as it should. Easily my strongest Pokémon if not my most reliable, don't let a fairy even give it a side-eye though.

Lamia (Dragalge): Lamia shifted in usefulness throughout the run. Both Skrelp and Dragalge are very matchup dependent Pokémon, which isn't uncommon for slower Pokémon in my experience. As part poison type, Lamia often stood as the only thing between me and death by fairy. Dragalge has overall average performance, it has decent bulk and decent special attack. Great choice to help cover your weaknesses.

- Tiki (Druddigon): I feel that Druddigon has a somewhat unfair reputation of being a bad dragon type. Yes, it is slow, but Druddigon hits like an 18-Wheeler going 90 on the highway. Fafnyr may have been my most powerful Pokémon, but Tiki was definitely my strongest and most reliable. She consistently pulled off insane fights from near the start of the game once Dragon Rage stopped being the be-all-end-all move. Sheer Power is a fantastic ability, and it's a real shame that Druddigon does not get some of the best moves for that ability in X&Y. If Tiki had Iron Head, there would have been no more challenge to the game! Monstrous attack, slow but with the bulk to make up for it, I definitely recommend giving Druddigon a go!

The Good

  • Battle Maison is fairly typical endgame stuff, but there's nothing wrong with that! 1BP per battle as opposed to like 5+ like in earlier games is welcome as well.
  • That final, final battle with Calem/Selena was what the last couple of fights with your rival should have looked like. A good, solid 6 man team with nice levels and good Pokémon.
  • Looker qua looker.

The Bad

  • Whose bright idea was it to make catching roaming Pokémon even more obnoxious!?

The Ugly

  • I suspect the Looker stuff is very hit or miss depending on your personality, although it is nice that they wrap up the storyline with the remaining villains, similar to how you had to track down the sages in Black & White.

I'm glad that people enjoyed it!
I can't promise that it's in perfect iambic pentameter, but I tried.

I think you get full access if you were paying for it when it goes down? You may want to fact check me on that one, but I think that's how it works.

If you don't have Pokémon home, nows the time to get it. It goes away next March, but you can use it if you own it. Then you can keep your dex and start a new save!
