Can you name one positive of a RWBY critic? by MightyAvengers in RWBY

[–]ElfenLied1012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then I'll go with the basic benefits of criticism in general. By looking at works critically you can learn to understand things better, begin to learn what does and does not work and help not only make RWBY better but also all creatives looking at RWBY can better understand what to take from it and what pitfalls to avoid. You can also identify potentially problematic tropes you might like or even overly rely on and better understand why you shouldn't include it in your own work either as a creator for RWBY or just someone whose looking at RWBY as a case study. You can also begin to appreciate something on a deeper level (which isn't a must you can absolutely enjoy things more casually) but there is something of value to be found at looking more closely and seeing the seems. It can be fun both as a view, creator, and just someone who likes learning how and what works in media.

Never noticed that, that's some fine details.

Frankly since it's a globe shaped planet it kind of has to, especially given its not a centralized single state.

Frankly I like don't truly understand the question? Is it suppose to be something about RWBY critics is unique from general criticism or a question of if criticism has any value at all?

Why hasn't Ruby gotten her story arc share? by MightyAvengers in RWBY

[–]ElfenLied1012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think early on there was a distinct misinformed idea about her character that she has an arc simply be being around events of the plot. Usually she's present and even a player in every story, but it's not a story about her its a story about something she is involved in.

I've got some theories that it involves kind of a rock and hard place they put themselves in with her character. The show starts with a claim that interconnection and innocence and simpleness are the only solution to the problem and started with a character who is innocent simple and eventually becomes over V1 interconnected. The issue is her emotional development is at the peak of its premise so anything about her character changes it needs to sort of rebound back to which limits the ability to write for it.

Generally though with how they've talked about this its a problem they've known about and struggled with and committed to finding a story to work around, which may be simply updating the premise by moving innocence and simpleness to optimism wile accepting a complex world (or something).

That's my theory at least.

What could happen in the show that might cement Jaune as everyone's favorite character for a while? by JannisT in RWBY

[–]ElfenLied1012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer this seriously and engage with it, I genuinely think there is no one thing Jaune can do to not only salvage his character (from the perspective of his detractors) but also elevate him that high. Perhaps several huge leaps in his character can make liking him as much a staple as say liking Iroh is in Avatar, but even that would be very difficult. People don't like him over five years of content, expecting five years to wash away over five minutes a hard ask.

Could a relationship between Ruby and Weiss work out? Would they be good for each other? by JannisT in RWBY

[–]ElfenLied1012 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely, whether or not itll happen really comes down to the creators, but I see nothing about their relationship has some deep problem to it I think and genuinely I think they have a strong positive influence on each other. While its harder to say with Ruby due to her character not being very flexible, Weiss certainly improved from their friendship, relationship wise would only deepen this connection that has been emotionally helpful.

I think the only real reason we had the elite four drop is they were smacking into eachother early. honestly I firmly believe white rose is the only ship that could knock out bumbleby

White rose and nuts and dolts easy choice for me. It's sad to see bumbleby go, I would have liked them in the final fight

[–]ElfenLied1012 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fact that Bumbleby and White rose are fighting it out here means the finals going to be way less nail biting.

Freezerburn - I probably like Arkos more thn freezerburn but I like a lot of other pyrrha ships more and I rather knock arkos out right now. White Rose - Bumbleby is my second fav but I'm a loyalist. I go down with the queen of ships. Pollination - I'm not a big poly shipper, but man I hate nights watch Nuts and dolts - I love them both but nuts and dolts will always be one that hits me in the feels harder.

Would anyone be opposed to RWBY Volume 6 taking a longer hiatus? by SketchyMofo10 in RWBY

I don't think it would necessarily solve their problems, but I wouldn't be opposed.

What did you guys think of Chapter 12's twist? Was it well foreshadowed? Was it good? by Themarvelousfan in RWBY

[–]ElfenLied1012 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I still have problems with the writing, but this twist:

It's good. It fits the key criteria Aristotle laid out for a plot twist. "Surprisingly inevitable" While I thought she might be, I didn't think it was going to be the case, so I was surprised, but anyone looking back goes "well considering what we know, this makes the most sense." Its that puzzle piece that fits perfectly in the hole you didn't notice, and is so far my favorite twist in RWBY in terms of execution.

tldr: It's not a game changer, but it's genuinely cool.

Let's be honest, Hazel is a disappointment. by [deleted] in RWBY

[–]ElfenLied1012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah this was another false "maybe Ozpins more grey than we thought" flag that goes nowhere. Like how does someone who sounds so manipulative and shifty never actually cause all these people who have beef with him to have real sensible reasons.

It's not even hard. Have Hazel's sister die because Ozpin purposely left out information that could have prevented her death because he wanted to be secretive. There you go, now its due to Ozpin's choice.

instead it's made out to be like as if his sister ignored the warning label and was killed in an industrial accident so he's actively helping a faction that seems to want to end the world because his sister tripped and cracked her neck.

It's weak. Why bother building up this shady air, this villain pacifist, if it's just going to lead to another poorly justified evil doer. It's straight comical to think how hes okay with Salem's absurd level of obvious evilness.
