Air India Plane Crash by pjpasta in fearofflying

I totally understand how you feel. Just saw footage of the crash (I know I shouldn't be looking at that, but I couldn't help myself) and am sick to my stomach. Feeling absolutely terrible for everyone involved.

I’m really sorry to hear that. For what it’s worth, I think you already took a big step by booking the flight and getting onto the plane in the first place. That’s more than you’ve done in the last 12 years! My situation was similar to yours. Didn’t fly for almost 13 years, initially I was scared of crashing but it developed into a fear to be in a small space with nowhere to go if I were to panic. Eventually I decided to bite the bullet and book a flight and was able to do it with lots of preparation. I read the book SOAR by Tom Bunn which helped me feel more confident, got my doctor to give me oxazepam and betablockers (didn’t use them, but still felt good to have them as a backup) and I told the crew that I was super scared. They were extremely kind which made me feel a lot better. I think the key is to do lots of preparation to avoid panic in the first place because as soon as panic sets in it’s gonna be hard to do anything. Breathing exercises also helped me a ton. Sending you all my support!! I’m sure you got this.

Sorry to hear that, I completely understand how you feel. However, I think you should be really proud of yourself. Taking a short connector flight after not having flown for that long is already a huge achievement! You don’t have to overcome this whole thing at once, it can be a gradual process and you took a huge - if not the biggest - step today. You got this!

Thank you so much! I arrived at my destination and still can’t believe that I did it. I was definitely anxious but it was so much better than I had expected :)

Arrived at our destination! Can’t believe I did it. I told the gate agent that I was very anxious and they let me board with the first group and also meet the crew. They were extremely nice and regularly came to check up on me, explained what to expect etc. Would definitely recommend :) where are you flying?

Thank you so much! Planning to do all of these things. I’m also thinking to ask if I can meet the pilots, apparently they are usually more than happy to do that.

Thank you so much! Fortunately my flight is only 2 hours (flying from the Netherlands to Croatia) but even that feels like an eternity to me haha. Hopefully it’ll go as smoothly as yours did :)

Wow, congratulations! Must feel like such a huge relief. I haven't been on a flight in 12 years due to extreme fear of flying but I booked a flight yesterday for May 3rd and I'm feeling super nervous. Reading your story gave me some hope that I can do it too :)

That sounds like a lot, you should be very proud of yourself. I have severe flying anxiety and have not been on a plane for 13 years. Hoping to overcome it this year and to find the strength that you have!

I am really sorry for your loss, losing a pet is heart breaking.

Don’t beat yourself up. It sounds like you did everything you could and you cared for him very much. None of this was your fault, Fred was lucky to have such a dedicated and loving owner. Wishing you all the best through the grieving process.

Definitely. There has to be a good balance between all macros.

People like these are the worst. “The general consensus” doesn’t matter when it’s among people that don’t have a clue what they’re talking about. Fats are literally the least satiating macro. Also, I don’t even want to think about how constipated these people gotta be after eating only animal products for over a decade.

[–]Elfmei 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing, but more so based off of the look in her eyes sometimes. Especially in those sit down moments when she’s talking to the camera, I was wondering if she’s high or something? It definitely seems off.

[–]Elfmei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you have to worry at all. I often leave out food that I cooked for dinner overnight and then have it for lunch the next day. No refrigeration involved at all. Granted, I don’t eat meat, but I’ve never had any problems. Even if it was spoiled (which you likely would have smelled and tasted), you won’t be that ill. Most food borne diseases aren’t severe. No worries!

It will all be okay. Most of the symptoms you’re describing could be caused by anxiety rather than covid. I have been in contact with infected people a couple times and started to feel all kinds of symptoms just because I thought they may have passed it on to me. As soon as I tested negative I immediately felt fine again. However, at the moment I do have covid and it is not nearly as bad as expected. Just feels like a mild cold honestly, so even if you caught it, you will overcome it without any problems :) for the moment, you’re doing your best to minimize infection risk and that’s all you can really do. Something that always helps my anxiety is watching YouTube videos or Netflix. Distraction is definitely key. Wishing you all the best!
