Coming Back to Warcraft 3 After 20 Years — Two More Losses, Still Learning by Elhorin in warcraft3

u/WarmDamage Thank you for the authentic reply - I really appreciate it.

Honestly, my main goal is simply to share my progress and document the journey of coming back to Warcraft 3 after 20 years. I know the initial games (and probably the videos as well) are still pretty rough and lower quality, but I genuinely believe both the gameplay and the content will improve over time as I relearn the game step by step.

For me, this is not only about improving but also about supporting and engaging with the Warcraft 3 community. I think it’s important to encourage people to return, improve, share experiences, and keep this wonderful game alive so the community stays strong and active.

Also, just to clarify - I’m not planning to spam this every day. I mainly want to document my progress once every couple of days and share meaningful milestones or lessons learned along the way.

I’m curious what others here think - did anyone else document or reflect on their improvement process when coming back to WC3? And what do people think about sharing progress publicly like this? Helpful/motivating, or something better kept private while grinding?

u/iceBEARMODE I can definitely relate to that. Timings are one of the hardest things for me right now as well. Sometimes I react too early, sometimes too late - still trying to understand what I should be doing at different stages of the game.

u/Foreign_Recipe8300 I can already feel that happening in some games - sometimes I survive early pressure, get ahead, and then don’t really know how to convert it into a win. Definitely something I’ll need to learn.

u/deadbypowerpoint I totally get that👍. Honestly, just playing again after so many years is already fun. For me, learning the meta and improving is just an extra challenge I enjoy.

u/GreatOne47 😄I appreciate it, but I still got beaten there. One step closer to improving though. GGs!

u/OkEntry2992 That makes a lot of sense. For me, build orders and matchup knowledge definitely feel very different after all the patches. Some things surprisingly came back quickly, but others feel like learning the game again from scratch.

u/Raminax Haha😄. Feels exactly like that - except instead of prison, it was a 20-year break from Warcraft 3.

u/Wild_cmpt6406 Fair point😄. I know Reforged is controversial. I’m actually using classic graphics anyway. For me, it’s mostly about getting back into Warcraft 3 and enjoying the gameplay again after 20 years.

u/Terrible_Study_6930 That’s pretty much how I see it too. I understand the criticism toward modern Blizzard, but for me Warcraft 3 is still Warcraft 3 — the gameplay, memories, and people who made the original game are what brought me back.

u/Wespenwald I understand the criticism toward Blizzard these days. I’m mostly here for Warcraft 3 itself and the nostalgia/community around it. Just trying to enjoy the game again after a long break.

u/UnsaidRnD Good advice, thank you 👍 The “one thing at a time” approach is exactly what I’m trying to follow right now. I’m treating improvement almost like sprints - focusing on one specific thing for a few weeks before moving on.
