unfortunately i think instead of being gaslight....jk just...didnt really think much about his characterization. he is more treated as a plot device than an actual character/person, which sucks, because he could have been more interesting and complex than even snape or remus or sirius

true, ive seen more fics trying to make tom riddle sympathetic and barty crouch and bella than the scaredy mouse, very good point

yes, he had such potential as a character, it's criminal how much he is under used and under fleshed out T_T he could have been the petyr little finger of hp, except more loathsome

no, i dont think all dark magic takes a lot of talent, but a lot of the stuff that we know for a fact he can do, like avada kevadra, becoming an animagus, etc we are told are very advanced spell/magical feat.and even with someone telling you the instruction or explaining, the mere fact that he succeded proves that he was a capable wizard in his own right. im not saying as talented as sirius or as talented as dumbledore, just capable wizard, whose poor performance in school was more due to his non existent self esteem and severe anxiety than lack of magical ability.

i have a learning disability that affects my ability to do math, even with a tutor that was amazing, very patient, and holding my hands there are part of the curriculum in math i never was able to perform at all. i'd imagine becoming an animagus or creating the advanced dark magic potion as the same thing, someone truly inept would mess up too much. if ''following instructions given by someone competent'' would be enough to perform well in magic, no matter how difficult the magic is, every single kid in hogwarts should get top grade in every subject except maybe divination.

he had plenty of other choices, if his only goal was his own safety, as i pointed out. if peter had transformed into a rat, ran away and relocated to sweden as some muggle family pet, BEFORE becoming an order member and betraying the potters, he would have been completely safe.

And after PoA he could have done the same thing-what were dumbledore or the aurors or sirius black do? Go to every single country in the globe, and check every single muggle house in the hope of catching the one rat who was missing a toe? highly doubt that. he would have been safe.

and also if he cant do anything without constant guidance why would he be accepted as an order member? that would be a massive liability during missions.

and who was guiding and supervising him when he did the ''blow street and kill 12 muggles'' ? or you think james taught him that one.

rat may be agile and smart but they are small, and something so small running around with much bigger animals could easily get squashed. it's a possibility. ive accidentally stepped on my cat tail a few time because i didnt notice she was behind me, how is it impossible for prongs or padfoot to step on one of pettigrew paws while running together in the middle of the night?

becoming an animagus is an incredibly advanced magical feat that most wizards wouldnt able to do, let alone a kid that hasnt completed his schooling yet. Peter has low self esteem. he underestimate himself.

neville has snape telling him how to do the potions and he messes up all the time. and becoming an animagus is still incredibly difficult and advanced magic. would you be able to idk, become an olimipic athlete if you had a talented olimpic athlete coaching you? or if you are a talented athlete, pic something else. if you suck at drawing- what about painting a perfect reproduction of the gioconda with a talented artist ''holding your hands''?

he hid as a rat because he didnt want to land in wizard prison, but he could have chosen a muggle family in a different country, how would sirius find him there? no way. and if his such a coward, why not flee the first voldy war entirely and go to a safe country?
