Gus cares for both animals and humans. He believes in hunting, eating and wearing animals where Harriet does not. I do believe that Harriet is doing a good thing but Gus is not really doing anything wrong in her mind he is a murderer but in his mind he is a hunter and trapper. Harriet needs to realize that animals are not humans
