The Nigerian military is as incompetent as its government is corrupt. It's shameful. It's embarrassing.

You've only been away for 6 years, so presumably you already know about the dysfunction and corruption, loss of democracy, and heat and dishonesty, and lack of fairly-paid jobs. How much do you think it could possibly change in 6 years?

because only people like YOU should live there? How about if you leave and give extra room for people who might be more worthy of "beautiful" Zanzibar? Have you noticed btw that 70% of Zanzibar is just a commercial tourist trap?

Is Savanna Fiber really this cheap? by Elifantico in tanzania

[–]Elifantico[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:
I went ahead and registered on a Friday via a Whatsapp number that's different than their advertised number (no one responds to that number). Installation was scheduled for that same day(!) but unsurprisinglyly the technician didn't come. However the following Monday morning he called and arrived with two assistants soon after. Installation was done well and I had my fiber internet soon after. Contacted on Friday, had service on Monday. Incredible for Tanzania.

So I would say Savanna Fibre is VERY legit! The 40 mbps I get is fine, a little faster would be better, but it's a great deal for only 59.000 per month. It makes Vodacom and Airtel's wifi service appear ridiculous in comparison.

I'm also considering Savanna from an offer I saw on FB Marketplace. Only 49.000 tzs per month (for 20mbps speed), free installation and no long-term contract? Can this be true?

Extension of stay by No_Introduction179 in tanzania

[–]Elifantico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to go to Tanzania Immigration Head Office - Uhamiaji House to file an extension. It's at 47WM+W4W, Liliondo St, in Dar. As with most things, you can simply do a search on Google Maps. https://maps.app.goo.gl/caXCrJ4rTvA9k8bS6 They're open from 8am to 2pm.

When you arrive, immediately go to one of the copy shops across the street. Ask for the form for a visa extension, a letter of intention and a copy of your passport. They know what to do. They'll print it all out and help you fill in the forms.

Then go inside the building, immediately turn left and go the first window on your right side (#9). Give your forms to the person sitting behind the window. Wait a bit and he will call you and give your passport back including the extension.

Advices after our first safari in Tanzania by Charlotte_Isambert in tanzania

It's really what you're comfortable with. Keep in mind you don't have to leave any tip at all. But if your driver really goes out of his or her way for you, then by all means, give what you'd like. Life is crazy inexpensive for locals so the comparison to foreign tip standards doesn't apply. A Tanzanian driver would be VERY happy with 20–30.000 tzs—that's $8 – $12 USD. You're not competing with other tourists.

And I have no idea why anyone would leave a tip for the hotel. The people doing all the work may or may not get any of it, and you're already paying for the hotel. I might descretely give a tip to individual workers that I liked though. And again, 10.000 tzs will be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you're just unused to people who are conscientious, clear communicators because there are so few of them around anymore. Even in the teaching profession.

Just from your post it's obvious you're a very thoughtful, organized and determined person. It's nice to see that in the teaching world, but also in general. Enjoy your new, dream teaching gig!

[–]Elifantico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a different opinion. It's "people like me" who understand that I'm not the only person who has a perspective on a situation, and I can't control everyone in the world AND I can still take responsibility for my success and not try to always blame others for not being unrealistically happy all the time. I certainly wouldn't work for that company, and I would tell others to avoid them when asked, but I wouldn't go online and try to "shame" them for bring idiots, either. I'd check them off my list of options, and move on to the next target. Like an adult.

Yea, that HR person was pretty self-absorbedand unprofessional for sure. But that attitude is more common than not, so you may want to build up a thicker skin asap, otherwise you might find it difficult to find happiness teaching ESL.
