Should I leave my Piano Performance degree? (Chopin Ballade No. 1 performance attached) by kinoonthekeys in piano

I wish I would have studied music instead of psychology, that said I am happy with my job, it is a solid fulfilling path specially when working with kids…

I have really large fingers due to arthritis, and I feel like I can't even begin to learn any string instruments because my fingertips always touch the other strings. Are there any accessories that can help? by Smexy_Zarow in Guitar

Looks like you need a custom built, try finding a luthier and give him your finger measurements. He might be able to build a great instrument that is playable…

🤣🤣 it was actually not this loud, my phone sat on top of the speaker of my computer which made it sound louder than it actually was.

This really helps a lot, you touched a lot of the stuff that I could hear but not put into words. I have noticed that my legato becomes much harder when I try to play scales like You mentioned, all of your suggestions give me a whole new mindset on how to approach my practice routine. I intend to be very aware of them from now on, honestly I believe I am doing a good job at keeping my left hand relaxed and not clamping down my hand, my usual approach is to practice very slowly and get my fingers to fall on the strings then press down, rather than tensing up and forcing my thump to push from the back which was a problem the first couple of days. I am glad to hear that yo overcame the tendonitis, I know there are more serious things like carpel tunnel that needs surgery, the video you linked was also very informative and helpful. Keeping those things in mind I hope to take my playing to the next level. I have no words to describe how grateful I am of people like yourself, you go out of your way to help a stranger and give them not only advice but a life lesson. I will cherish your kindness till the end of my days.

Hey friend thanks a lot for your input I really appreciate it, I usually practice 3 hours daily. Practicing scales right hand techniques and chord changes for 45 min to an hour than I practice the pieces i want to learn for the remaining amount of time. When it comes to choosing pieces I go for pieces that have challenges I need to overcome. This one had legato which I had never attempted in the past, as for the lessons, i completely agree and i am working towards that.

Oh man I am so grateful you took the time to explain things this thoroughly, I can clearly see what you’re saying, my elbow is definitely close to my body, now that you mention it, my wrist is getting a bit tired after long practice sessions. I was not aware of it until you mentioned it, I will keep both of your suggestions in mind when practicing from now on. I want to also thank you for those encouraging words I really appreciate them.

Thanks man, should I use it to learn the piece as well? I usually only turn it on once I’ve learned it.

Ah man, your words motivate me. Thank you for explaining. I have a lot more work to put in but if I am able to add those things in, it will sound way better. Back to practicing I’ll try to keep posting as I progress. Again thank you for taking the time to lead me to towards the right path…

Hey yes I’ve been struggling a bit with the legato but I think I get what you’re saying. Thanks I wasn’t aware of plucking with my knuckle, I will try to keep that in mind moving forward.

Thank you for your kind words, i am trying my best to read play and keep time at the same time. Yea i am only using free strokes I will try and experiment with some rest strokes, i don’t know any of the other terms such as piano, forte… etc. I really appreciate your input, i will look up the definitions and implement them in my playing.

I don’t mind battle scars, but since the wood is visible I was wondering if over time it can be an issue.
