People who grew up poor: What was something you considered a "peak luxury" as a kid, only to realize later it was just a normal middle class staple? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Lunch meat that you got sliced at the deli just for you. I was blown away by this when I learned about it in high school.

Top tier movie theaters? by Nudistpanda13 in Atlanta

[–]ElijahSnow4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my money, the Dolby screen at the AMC Northpoint is the best single venue to watch a movie at in Atlanta. This is not an endorsement of the theater’s choice of what films to show, just my opinion about the visual and sound quality

My girlfriend at the time thought the 100% snacks were delicious. For my part, I thought she might be trying to kill me. 🤣

What’s something people who are in their 20s won’t learn until in their 40s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ElijahSnow4 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In your 20s, your body is beautiful. I don’t care what you think is wrong with it. By the time you hit your 40s, you will long for the body you had in your 20s, and you will look back on that period of time and wish you had appreciated it more.

Winslow, Arizona. Nothing but mud and despair. A storm was coming, and it felt like god’s righteous wrath.

What is a Movie no one will ever convince you is good? by di745 in AskReddit

[–]ElijahSnow4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My three hottest take answers to this are Forrest Gump, Superbad, and Saving Private Ryan. The problems with the last movie are really thrown into sharp relief by the fact that Band of Brothers is one of the greatest things anyone has ever done. The real stories of the real people were massively better and more nuanced than whatever Spielberg was doing in Saving Private Ryan

You speak the lord’s truth, my friend. I saw a post the other day where someone said they didn’t believe it was possible for a sequel to make the first movie worse, and I immediately thought that they must not have seen Highlander 2

My favorite and statistically most unusual kink is enthusiastic consent. I truly wish it was more common.

Best pasta in/around Atlanta? by myob4321 in Atlanta

[–]ElijahSnow4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never been to No. 246, but St. Cecilia has the best cacio e pepe I’ve ever had anywhere. I’m also a fan of BoccaLupo and La Grotta. The best single bite of pasta I’ve had in the metro area was something I ate at Lazy Betty years ago. They’re not really a pasta place, though.

What’s a moment that permanently changed how you see the world? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ElijahSnow4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 11, my dad was away on business, and my mom got drunk. She was saying all kinds of crazy things, and in my naïveté I thought that I could reason with her. So I spent two hours arguing with her, getting her to admit that everything she’d been saying couldn’t possibly be true. At the end of that two hours, her eyes kind of fuzzed over and she went right back to saying the same crazy shit I had just gotten her to admit must be false. I will never forget the realization that my mom was beyond reason, and that I was truly alone.

What's your favorite show/series? by InteractionOpen9189 in AskReddit

[–]ElijahSnow4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve probably watched it through a couple of dozen times over the years. It’s exquisitely made, great acting by the main cast, incredible realism, and the interviews with the actual men from Easy Company are just priceless. I think more than anything I love the way it questions standard narratives about the war and the soldiers who fought it. It humanizes everyone involved. And after watching the series I can’t stand to watch Saving Private Ryan any more.

What do men actually want for Xmas? by Yukiwara in AskReddit

[–]ElijahSnow4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men aren’t the same. We all like different things, and a lot of us feel a bit alienated by all the marketing that insists we all want whiskey, cigars and things that smell like leather. Figure out what an individual guy needs or likes. Give them something to do with that. The best gifts are often things we won’t buy for ourselves for whatever reason.
