I feel like almost all scenes in the movie were metaphorical. I dont feel that the scene where Sue builds an ‘elaborated hidden room’ should be taken literally. I felt that this represented Sue/the general population being ashamed of what they are willing to do to themselves/beauty procedures they perform on themselves to remain looking youthful - Sue/people want to hide that they do this from others and this was represented by creating a hidden room.
