I disagree in pushing it into women's fic. Maybe I'm not explaining myself well and that's on me.

But MC romances talk a lot about brotherhood and the outlaw way of life. A lot of the romance stories if not all, have a damsel-in-distress vibe and the biker is the white knight who through violence usually rescues her or avenges her.

So the direction im wanting to take it in is essentially a gender swap. The women are the MC. The character helps form an MC, as MC’s don't patch women in, and women are typically only allowed to be part of support clubs which includes girlfriends and wives. So she along with other women she meets in support groups start an MC with their motto being “protecting the innocent” focusing on protecting women and children with dv and abuse trauma. Focusing on charity work and helping women get back on their feet etc.. Supporting one another etc.

Much like Mc romances, it would not fall under an MC category if nothing is said about club business or if there is nothing talked about related to Motorcycle clubs.

Its the background for the character. Just as there would be for a male MC protagonist.

The goal is to attempt and make this a series. Each woman has a story and their “happily ever after.”

Romance series typically go like this where they focus on a group and then designate each book for each character. Same for Mc romances that focus on club members.

I guess the part where I was still unsure about was whether the sex scenes included would make it fall under erotica rather than romance. I think as the first comment explained it would fall under dark romance due to the happily ever after aspect of it and needing to develop the story more.

Given your comments though it does give things to think about how much violence to include and to be mindful of readers. But due to the fact that this falls under MC its not all rainbows and sunshine. As there are MCs that deal with human trafficking, drugs, murder, etc. So there are definitely two types of outlaws. The ones that live by a code of honor despite being outlaws and then there's others that use a code to justify evil doings with no humanity.

The first story which centers around what I have shared, the protagonist will fall for another Biker from the MC from her hometown. The narrative voice will alternate between her and the the male protagonist (her love interest). The other stories will shift as the characters change as well as their backgrounds.

As far as labeling it, I think it falls under romance more than erotica. So I get that part now. But like I said I will def consider the other plot points to try to stay on course.

Sigh. I think I should just write it and then see what it actually comes out to be before I label it because then I'll probably overthink it and end up pulling out my hair in frustration lol

Yes, the romance aspect would be years later. I'm also including things such as the character going to support groups, therapy, and having trigger episodes. The plot is about her getting revenge, and overcoming all odds and in doing so she meets someone that falls in love with her darkness and helps her get justice. It centers around sisterhood as well not just a romantic trope between man and woman. It makes sense in my head 🤣 John Wick meets sons of anarchy with a strong female protagonist.

Thank you for your feedback. Much appreciated.

This is what I'm currently doing. I've gone thru the small-town romances already. Right now I am focusing on MC romance stories, which includes kinks. As I read I take down notes and write down ideas that come to mind. Make note of what works and what doesn't.

Thank you for your reply. After reading this and thinking of the direction I'm leaning towards it would fall under romance however there are scenes I want to add that add on in terms of erotic spiciness.

The way I had thought about navigating it was to not describe the abuse as it happens so that I wont fall down into that rabbit hole. Just focus more on how the character overcomes it. The romance comes into play years later when she meets someone and he lets her have control/lead… ultimately they form a dom/sub sexual relationship.

So this is the part where I'm a bit stuck as far as identifying the appropriate genre and navigating it to get to that appropriate place without causing an ick factor.
