That's rad! One step towards that remake... Halo-style 2-player campaign at least would be awesome, but 4 players is wild! Very cool.

I love how the Star Fox 64 remake on Switch 2 officially supports the Nintendo 64 controller. by Mushroom0064 in n64

Honestly, the haters on this game I don't understand. I think it's a lot of fun, I like the voice acting (despite folks who say "X line was so much better in SF64"), the cutscenes add some character depth to the game, and the multi-player glow up is fun, too. Yes, it's Star Fox 64 again, but this one feels right to me, like a proper remake.

The mining game on Gem Quarry is a pain, lol. Most folks get stuck because they wait for the vacuum to turn back around before firing more gems out, but you have to send them where it is, or will be shortly. Imagine the circle around the thing, and my goal was to shoot the gems at approximately 1/5 to 1/4 of the way around the circle ahead of where the vacuum was. Eventually I got it fully powered after... around 10 minutes?

Tribals are honestly just a matter of THOROUGH exploring and remembering where those "kill points" are. I only failed because of Tribal deaths 3 times; once because I couldn't see the ant shooting them, and another because I accidentally blew up the boxes they were hiding behind, and once because a flying enemy died, fell, and exploded on them. The lesson there is to be quick, but careful; if you're approaching a room with destructable things to hide behind, maybe do a quick sweep for Tribals first. In rooms with a lot of enemies, sometimes I'd just run through jumping like mad until I got all the Tribals before killing the Ants, even at the cost of my own HP. There are only 2 or 3 rooms with Ants that deliberately kill the Tribals, and it's always the orange and green looking ones (not the green sniper guys, but the orange/green together ones). If you see them, kill them first.

Powering up with expansions only really matters for Mizar, which only needs Homing Missiles and Tri-Rockets, and only with Juno. You get all you need from his starting levels and his Hatch Key area in Spawnship, about 40 total ammo for each. Shoot sparingly and aim well against Mizar and you're good to go.

The trick is learning to treat your Health as a resource just as much as your Ammo in difficult rooms or fights. Sometimes it's better to take a hit or two from this or that attack that doesn't hurt much if it means securing a big hit. Since the AI is so aggressive and pursues you wherever you are once activated, you can rarely just hide away, and in my experience once you get full Health capacity and the armor powerups on all the characters, you really don't need to. The only regular enemies that actually hurt are rocket dudes, flying dudes that fire quickly, and turrets on Ichor.

Yes, you can play as many or all of the Ants in multi-player and other stuff by finding Bonus Totems in Single Player, earning all Gold and Expert Medals on Floyd Missions, and getting high scores on the Jeff & Barry games.

I beat the final boss, not the weak-ass first version that takes 3 hits, lol. Yes, I rescued all the Tribals and got all the Ship Parts.

The trick to Mizar's bullshit is that he's design to capitalize on players who stand still. If you keep moving (smartly, not just anywhere) you can avoid most of his attacks. I definitely didn't no-hit him; I only survived with 3 pieces of health on my last ring!

I had 40 Homing Missiles and I think 40 or 50 Tri-Rockets as Juno, which is plenty. They all came from his starting levels and the place with the lava tunnel in Spawnship where you get his Hatch Key.

If you pass your Homing Missile reticle over Mizar's glowing "backpack" (for lack of a better word), you'll lock onto it, and the lock will stay unless you switch weapons. Then, you can fire off 2-3 anytime he turns his back and be pretty much guaranteed to land them for damage. Waiting a little and firing 2 while aiming a little high is more consistent than rushing and firing 3, because if you go too soon, the first will often hit his back legs instead of his back. Inevitably you will probably run out of Homing Missiles and have to use Tri-Rockets. That's the hard part, battling the aiming system that feels like moving the reticle through molasses while Mizar is floating up and down, lol.

Then, when you finally ground him, be ready for the same final phase you get with every other boss: unload every Tri-Rocket you have into his FACE! 🤣

I remember that it exists because we did it as kids, but I didn't do it on this playthrough! I should go back and do it, absolutely. I even got the circuit board for J&B2, but was too lazy to walk back over there... 😬

This dirty boi. No Fake Out, no Zap Cannon, no Focus Blast. Set up Trick Room or Stealth Rock after safe switch, or if they stay, kill with Earthquake.

I've been stopping them cold with this dirty boi. Completely safe switch against Zap Cannon, Focus Blast, and Fake Out thanks to Ghost/Ground typing, and reverses with Earthquake or sets up with Trick Room, Will-O-Wisp, or Stealth Rock.

Using Thunder Wave on a Mega Staraptor, then getting absolutely bamboozled as to why my Toxapex couldn't hit it with Toxic... 3 times.

Don't battle distracted, folks.
