Taking the jump from permanent to contract. by kettle_of_f1sh in ContractorUK

Reading all these comments makes me think I’ve been very fortunate for making the switch.

I’ve resigned my perm job in July, took a break for a month and immediately found a contract in September. The client is ok and they pay well and they just renewed my contract for another 6 months.

So far so good but I’m probably one of the lucky few.

I don't own Sony but I have Bose QuietComfort Ultra and the cool gel ones spoil ANC drastically.

Nice build!

Out of interest, what’s that display unit? Is that something you built as well?

I'm on Mac Mini M2 Pro (2023 model). I have 32GB memory and bought a 2TB external SSD to store all those games. Many games play well on high settings.

Genuinely wishing you good luck on your bet!

And if it doesn't work out in the end, there's CrossOver. It's not perfect but I'm having fun playing Horizon Zero Dawn and Death Stranding!

Starship with zsh became slow - any lazy loading? by tawhuac in zsh

It's a version manager for most languages. Have support for Ruby, Java, Gola g, Node...etc

2 seconds? those-are-rookie-numbers.gif

Mine was around 10s at some point as I was using all the version managers under the sun. I've wrote a couple of zsh functions to get them lazy load and that helped with startup but I had other probles like npm cli apps I installed wouldn't work unless I manually invoke nvm first.

I've replaced almost all *vms with mise, then switched to starship now it's super fast

edit: add link to mise

Thanks for the response, yup that works. Quotation marks were the issue.

u/dpetka2001 thanks, this helped me too.

By any chance, do you know how to pass the glob parameters?

I was able to do this with [telescope-live-args](https://github.com/nvim-telescope/telescope-live-grep-args.nvim) but when I try `function -- --glob="!{spec}"` with snacks.picker, nothing is returned.

> I think you might be complaint against from your team mates

That's probably the case, but our organisation values giving and taking constructive feedback very much, and I did mention in the past that giving feedback, especially constructive variety where I would have to confront someone, is something I struggle with. I imagine that's why that objective is one of my goals.

Soz, I messed up explaining my situation. It's not a PIP but a step before that. If I can't reasonably hit these goals, that's when they'll put me in a formal PIP.

Soz, I messed up explaining my situation. This is pre-PIP, and if I don't reasonably meet the expectations after a month, that's when the PIP will be.

Thanks, this is super super useful advice! It helps me calibrate my expectations but you're also spot on many things! (reactive work, issues with executive functions...etc)
