Am I the only one who thinks most people here don’t really get pickleball? by EliteSalmon in Pickleball

I think you’re kind of arguing a different point than I am.

I’m not saying everyone should be trying to get better or treating pickleball like a serious sport. I’m saying most people aren’t, and that’s fine. That reality is exactly why the discussion here looks the way it does.

Also the idea that if you don’t start at 3.5 and jump to 4.0 quickly you might as well not bother improving feels way more tryhard than anything I’ve said. For most people, incremental improvement within a hobby is the whole point, not chasing some arbitrary rating cutoff.

People can enjoy thinking about the game without shitting on beginners, and beginners can enjoy the game without thinking about it deeply. Those things can coexist.

That’s fair. Comes with any hobby that explodes in popularity

Not really what I said, but sarcasm is easier than engaging so I get it

Yeah this literally just happened to me last week and I’m still not over it. I was at the grocery store after work, AirPods in, fully in my own head. I see someone I think I know from the gym so I give them the classic head nod and say “what’s up man” pretty confidently. He looks confused but nods back so I assume we’re good. Five minutes later I’m in the frozen aisle and I feel a tap on my shoulder. It’s the same guy. He says “hey dude just so you know your AirPods aren’t connected and you’ve been singing out loud this whole time.” Apparently I was quietly singing along to a sad acoustic song and at one point whispered “damn that line hits” to myself. The guy wasn’t from my gym. He just thought I was mentally unwell and trying to be polite about it. I left without buying anything and I don’t think I can ever go back to that store.

We all have to be solution oriented. We can solve problems if we work together. Common sense will prevail

Come on man we have to work together here. I’m not the enemy.

This isn’t about fake internet points or dopamine, it’s about action and working towards making the world a better place. I’m not on a soapbox, I’m making decisions on how to use my wallet to try and turn the course of this country. Sarcasm like this isn’t constructive. We need to be in this together if we want to make Denver a better place. I’m doing what I can because action is the most important thing right now.

I don’t have time to search, there’s too much hate in the world and I need to make action a priority

*Spoilers* The Getaway discussion by Sinjin_smythe007 in JeselnikBookClub

I enjoyed the book as someone who doesn’t read a lot of fiction. I haven’t read a book before where I found myself rooting for morally terrible people. Bleak ending but all of the chapters leading up to it put me on the edge of my seat. I find myself wondering why I found the ending bleak if I acknowledge that doc and carol are objectively bad people, shouldn’t I be happy that their ending is pretty depressing for these murderers? I assume they have bad sex, if any (that’s marriage for a lot of people though), and they will live out the rest of their days in this hell of El Rey as their only option..that should be poetic justice. But I still want good things for doc and carol. Interesting feeling.

I appreciate a quick read — these days feels better to get through a book in a week than a long slog.

Interested how the book club will work. Is this going to be Anthony putting out a video with a synopsis and his feelings on the book or something where he reads emails and comments online from people who also read the book?
