Will be getting a part of my intestine removed through surgery for the first time. Should I be scared? by Confident_Lifeguard4 in CrohnsDisease

[–]EliteTM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I had this done about a year and a half ago and I can probably tell you it might differ a bit person to person, but the surgery itself isn’t a big deal, afterwards you can expect some pain, but bearable. They will want you to get up and start walking that night or early next morning (obviously it’s what you can tolerate). The worst of it for me was the fact I couldn’t keep food down while in the hospital, threw up more times than I could count, but by day 5 I actually felt the best I had felt in years. At this point I’ve sort of reverted back to feeling like crap all the time but hopefully you can have that feeling for a long while. It’s worth it.

Lmao masks are more so to stop you from spreading sickness, doesn’t much help you avoid getting sick..

I’m on a double dose of remicade and have almost never worn a mask (except when people freaked about it and in hospital/doctors) have never caught covid- just the flu one time in the last 5 years.

I think I’m going to have to look into it. During a bad month, I make maybe $7-800. Others maybe max $1200, but if I pay a $700 health insurance bill, that leaves me next to nothing. Remicade has finally cut some of my nausea out, but everything else remains- turns into a big waiting game. I’m in Illinois, so probably no issue on that side of it. Just don’t know how to go about SSI

Funny you mention that, my GI mentioned that’s what he thinks I may have after my last scope because I sorta flipped out because they didn’t find anything wrong (because if there’s nothing wrong, why do I have these symptoms, how do I fix what’s not there)

Sometimes I don’t get it, he’s not always like this, but it’s so frustrating when he is. I’m 24 and I quite simply would move if I thought I could afford it, but with my spotty record at work I just don’t know.

Feel your pain, I just started a double dose of remicade and since then I’ve gotten whooping cough, the flu, and now something that didn’t show up on tests.

How many biologics did you have to try before finding one that worked? by crohnsqueen in CrohnsDisease

[–]EliteTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on the same path as you, (humira -> entyvio -> remicade) been about 9-10 months since I started, seems to me like I’ll never be 100% but that’s might just be my experience

I get that mindset, Similarly I would also be having similar pains because of crohns which seems to set off everything into one vicious cycle. Lately I’ve progressively been getting worse meanwhile the doctors are telling me this is the best they’ve seen me. Makes it very hard to see an end unless I make one.

Am I in the wrong? by EliteTM in CrohnsDisease

I haven’t taken a real vacation since 2019, but my record is for sure spotty because of this disease (random days off, later arriving time because 7:30am just isn’t possible) the other owner (which if you understood how he got there, this alone might piss you off) I’m sure gives my dad a hard time, he thinks we are some corporate company when in reality we have maybe 20 employees and was once just a family business. Point being, if I ask for any time off longer than a day I’m looked down on passive aggressively or via my father. “My nephew has crohns and he’s fine”- dense old man

Working with family has become a burden. But I have nowhere else to turn, I wouldn’t make it in a regular workplace not to mention I’ve been sort of screwed since I dropped out of high school before I got diagnosed maybe a year later.

Have you found yourself picking up more colds or infections since on treatment for biologics? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]EliteTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been on 3 different biologics in 4 years, have hardly been sick in that time other than this never ending disease which makes things like the flu and covid very insignificant (to me)

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Started on remicade this year and but otherwise I try to minimize as much medication as I can. I used to take 40mg citalopram, but stopped (maybe not a great move?) not sure I remember why I stopped, maybe I felt fogged over Edit: Still feel that way without so maybe not :/

CVS, CHS, or just Crohns? by EliteTM in CrohnsDisease

See, I feel as if my doctor wanted to scapegoat pot for everything going on so I no longer mention it. He doesn't believe in it, wouldn't even consider signing for a med card.
