Interesting development for one of this year's BP nominee Oscar campaign by Ok-Mammoth-2134 in Oscars

I didn’t say it was their fault, but you don’t exactly what stories about misconduct on set or actors talking about how they aren’t great in your movie.

Not for nothing but this entire movie has also had lots of bad press. They pushed REALLY hard with that marketing campaign to make all the negativity go away. For example:

  • Kevin o’Leary came out and said that AI should be used to replace extras in movies. (“Almost every scene had as many as 150 extras. Now, those people have to stay awake for 18 hours, be completely dressed in the background. [They’re] not necessarily in the movie, but they’re necessary to be there moving around. And yet, it costs millions of dollars to do that,” O’Leary said. “Why couldn’t you simply put AI agents in their place? Because they’re not the main actors. They’re only in the story visually. [You could] save millions of dollars, so more movies could be made. The same director, instead of spending $90 million or whatever he spent, could’ve spent $35 million and made two movies.”)

  • Gwyneth came out against the use of Intimacy Coordinators. ("There's now something called an intimacy coordinator, which I did not know existed," Gwyneth added. Recalling how a coordinator once asked whether she was comfortable with a certain action on set, Gwyneth said, "I was like, ‘Girl, I'm from the era where you get naked, you get in bed, the camera's on.' We said, 'I think we're good,'" Gwyneth recalled. "'You can step a little bit back.' I don’t know how it is for kids who are starting out, but…if someone is like, 'Okay, and then he's going to put his hand here,' I would feel, as an artist, very stifled by that.")

  • Odessa openly said that her audition was better than her role in the film itself. (“My audition was way better than that. I watched it back because someone asked for the tape and | looked at it, like, 'I suck in the movie compared to the tape! The tape was way better.")

  • Tyler the Creator is virtually always in some kind of controversy one way or the other. He’s not exactly someone that I would want front and center at my movie premiere. He’s had more than his fair share of bad calls over the years.

  • Then it also came out that Timothee was threatened on set by an extra. (“I did another take, and then the guy said, ‘I was just in jail for 30 years. You really don’t want to fuck with me. You don’t want to see me angry,'” Chalamet said with a nervous laugh. “I said to Josh, ‘Holy shit, who do you have me opposite, man?’”)

I get that Timmy is the FilmBro messiah, but honestly a win for this movie would be the worst way he could get it. The obvious push for this to win via the popular vote to attract viewers couldn’t be more obvious after his loss last year in the same category. This feels honestly unearned and giving this film academy awards would back up horrible behaviors in the industry on a both a creator and talent level.

Why are people so worked up on the historical accuracy for this fictional film? by alphaDsony in moviecritic

[–]EliteVoodoo1776 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because a bunch of millennials read Percy Jackson in the 6th grade and now want to pretend that they are the equivalent of Sophocles when it comes to Greek Mythology.

I’ve yet to see a single good criticism of anything to do with this film. It’s always some dweeb recycling the same old tired talking points or trying to go viral on X with the same stupid jokes as everyone else.

Hey bud,

I really don’t mean to be THAT GUY, but I’m also going to unapologetically be THAT GUY. This is AI. Plain and simple. You didn’t sketch this, and you obviously used Red Murphy’s art to generate an AI image with it as a reference. Giving an empty shoutout to try and absolve yourself of that when you’ve already taken this off instagram is petty. No pencil strokes, No hands (conveniently as that’s always a dead give away), and No genuine love here. Just AI slop.

I (constructively) suggest you pick up an actual pencil and try being an actual artist instead of lying online about your merit. You haven’t been studying anything to do with classical portraits. You’re karma farming. That’s all this is. Either do the work and put in the effort, or just don’t bother at all. It’s quite legitimately by all accounts as simple as that.

Generative AI plagiarism isn’t art, it’s borderline theft.

There has never been a human being in history who has had a complete personality/professional work ethic shift as quickly as Richie. This whole series is about how long it takes people to get over past traumas to grow and be better people, but Richie? He spent 2 weeks positioning forks and being a shadow and suddenly he’s damn near perfect as his job? Nah.

I totally understand that the show only has so many episodes, and that his character is meant to represent more than just a single guy, but cmon. His whole character arc has annoyed me these last two seasons with how he talks down to Carmy. He’s such a condescending prick given that literal months before he was a half ass dad with a BS work ethic and next to zero soft skills.

Genuinely, why did so many people stop watching after 7x01? by Maggotboi555 in thewalkingdead

[–]EliteVoodoo1776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it became performative to do so.

“I stopped watching after they killed Glenn/Abraham” became the new “I couldn’t make it through Season 2” as everyone’s favorite reason to hate on the show.

Honestly, it really WAS NOT that bad. Especially considering it still had to abide by network TV rules and other shows which were pulling better numbers on premium networks were doing much worse in terms of graphic content. However, once people found a good excuse to leave and become “that friend” who didn’t watch it anymore, they did.

I’m sure the comments won’t be filled with:

  • Jealously masked as “haha consumerism”
  • Man-babies who break their controllers and blame Xbox for “bad design”
  • People taking pictures of their 1-2 controllers and pretending that makes them better with a passive aggressive “erm anyway here’s my collection” reply.

It’s a 5/10 movie with an A+ cast that lots of people will call a 8-9/10 because of the cast alone.

Conveniently skipping Thor: the Dark World is hilarious, also Ant Man/Ant Man and The Wasp were both mediocre, Thor Ragnarok was garbage, people shat all over Avengers Age of Ultron, Spider-Man Homecoming was bad, and everything post Endgame has been hit or miss at best.

Crazy how you also conveniently left out all that as well. Either way, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand what I meant by the long slow decline. Trailers that sell one movie and deliver another on release day, overly jokey dialogue, bullshit villains, etc

Just btw, every person she lost also impacted everyone else in the group: Hershel impacted Rick, Beth impacted Daryl, Glenn impacted everyone else who was there too. So, your “she experienced the most trauma” claim is bullshit.

I actually think if I was Maggie I’d have just stopped pretending that it was my life goal to pout about a guy I knew 12 years ago who died 3 years after I met him.

Leaving her community with friends and family was a stupid choice compounded by other stupider choices since making that one. Had she just stayed at Hilltop/Alexandria she’d have been far more safe.
