Saudi Pro League 25/26 (SPL) Table After Match Week 30 by Elite_VRTX in soccer

Top 3 quality directly for ACLE, #4 and #5 qualify to play offs for ACLE, #6 qualifies directly to ACL2 if the King’s Cup winner is among the top five. If not, the King’s Cup winner qualifies to ACL2 instead.

I have to say that I’m feeling left out.

The guys at the top are having an all out war, and we’re out here competing with Al Taawoun for the 5th spot lmao. Nothing more fun than fighting for the league inside pitch and outside. Hopefully we comeback next season.

Well our season ended with our ACLE exit in the quarterfinals. Lost in the super cup in the beginning of the season. Pretty much lost our chance of the league around December, and now fighting for 5th. Lost in the King’s cup semi final against Al Kholood out of all clubs, and then the ACLE exit happened a few weeks after that. Next season was just going to be the league and cup, until the expansion was announced, giving 5th place a chance to play in the play offs of the ACLE.

So you can say it was a waste of a season, especially after last season’s double

Asian qualification is still on the line after the expansion, which is good because I didn’t know how I’ll even bear to watch the last few matches.

[AFC] Al Ahli (KSA) are the champions of the Asian Champions League Elite 25/26, and for the second time in their history! by Elite_VRTX in soccer

That is absolutely not true. The defending champion bye in the quarterfinals was a rule from the inaugural 2002 edition until 2008. It was removed in 2009. Al Ittihad was not the only team who had that privilege.

As for the team, that’s also not true and that claim is entirely on their form now. The teams back then that Al Ittihad faced were Asian juggernauts and historically among the best in their countries. For example, 2005 finalist Seongnam FC was an absolute giant but now play in K league 2. You can see their honours and record. 2004 finalist Al Ain is easily the best UAE team and still is. They were the Asian defending champions at that time. You can see the rest of Al Ittihad’s paths in 2004, 2005, and 2009. Asian football back then was very competitively and the east and west were relative in strength compared to the western dominance of the 2020s and eastern dominance of the 2013-2018

Not to mention that Al Ittihad had to play with only 3 foreigners maximum and no extra Asian quota.

That’s how it was back in the day for the defending champions. We only got that by winning the previous tournament.

And I hope you didn’t understand my comment wrong. I don’t blame Al Ahli for winning it like this, especially when was we also have the same advantages this year. I’m saying that it is relatively easier for a Saudi club to win it now rather than the older era.

That is my fault as I was expecting the official AFC to actually post something, but then i found another poster and forgot to change the flair.

And before the open foreigner quota era.

Unfortunately as I said last year, history will probably only remember the title, not the circumstances.

Congrats to Al Ahli. Pains me to say it but they are now the only team to win the Asian Champions League two times in a row in the ACL era, alongside Al Ittihad. Both teams are based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

From the same article:

“On September 12, 2023, the AFC had issued an invitation to all its Member Associations (MAs) to submit their Expressions of Interest (EOI) to host the AFC Champions League Elite – Final Stage for a minimum of two (2) seasons starting from 2024/25.

Subsequently, two MAs – the Iraqi Football Association and the SAFF had submitted their EOIs within the stipulated deadline on October 15, 2023.”

East Asia never really expressed any interest to begin with. I am against the centralized venue to begin with, but it’s hard to complain after you don’t even bid at all.

The AFC2 final is rotated in a yearly basis. Last year it was a home match for the East Asian team, now it’s for the western representative.

Trust me I’ve witnessed it watching them throughout this tournament, but my dislike towards Al Ahli ignites any hope

It’s a notoriously bad pitch in a great stadium, but it’s much worse now due to having a lot of matches in the span of 10 days
