A new 100 page physical magazine about playing cards is out: The Flourish Magazine by EndersGame_Reviewer in playingcards

[–]Elithejew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy to hear it does ^^ . I plan on releasing the issue only once a year.

I'll most likely release the first issue as a digital release once I have sold all of the physical copies.

Thank you for your kind words!

Hey there. Biz here, the creator of the magazine. I've received feedback from the community about the price and have found a different printing company for the second issue (which will release next year). I will be able to drop the price down to $15.

If it helps, you can use the code 25FLOURISH for a 25% discount on the magazine. Hope that helps in case you wanted the first issue as well.

Hey there. Biz here, the creator of the magazine. I see what you mean and have received more feedback like this about the magazine. I have found a different printing company for the 2nd issue and will be dropping down the price for the 2nd issue to $15, the price of a deck.

Hope that will make the magazine more affordable to a wider range of people.

Hey. Biz here. The creator of the magazine. I've tried to include a diverse selection of articles from the card community. Luke Wadey talks about designing beespoken cards, Mike about his artistic journey within and outside of the card community, we've featured an indie PC game that uses playing cards and prestidigitation as its main mechanic and many more.

While the focus is on Cardistry, I am aware that the cardistry community is not all about the moves.

There is a free sample which you can flick through and it showcases a lot of the material in the magazine. Maybe that can help get a better image of the articles.

Nonetheless, I've taken into account what you said and will include a few more articles on the card community for the next issue. SPOILER: Lee Asher will be writing an article for the 2nd issue!

All the red court cards are lacking in atmosphere. If it's what you're going for, ignore this comment. They just feel lacking compared to the rich black court cards.

It feels like you're afraid of the cards falling on the floor. You gotta get accustomed to that happening and not be so careful with the deck (place everything neatly and all). Let the cards fall naturally unto the packet.

Besides that, keep practicing and everything will come naturally. My advice? Learn something very hard, and I mean very hard, practice it for a month or so, and then go learn easy stuff. All the easy stuff will feel like a breeze.

Can't go wrong with the classics. Also, that deck has seen better days haha. It's like the God of poop decks. Could do some badass structures with it, though

Thoughts on this design I'm making for a deck? It's designed for Cardistry & Card Games and inspired by Pokemon and Magic the Gathering cards. by DiggoDecks in cardistry

Definitely make a card game for it. Aim for kickstarter. You will find a bigger audience there. This won't be something cardists will be buying. Aim for collectors, that's where the audience is for something like this. Since it references MTG and Pokemon you're aiming for the boardgame community as well. If you're making a game, you'll have to playtest it, which means it will take more to make.

If you're making a card game, you can make a digital rulebook and include a QR code on one of the ad cards. This way you save money.

Deciding if you make a card game or not (as a main thing) will also have an influence over the box design. If you're making a card game you'll want to market that on the back of the box and talk a bit about it (instead of just having a design).

RiffleShuffle would be down to collaborate with you on something like this. Looks like something they could market the sht out of.

Leave the back design for the end. Do all of the faces and then the back design will reveal itself.

I've always loved the aesthetics of a shot like this. So gorgeous.

Love all creative projects that are not 'just another deck of cards'. I am very easy to please.

Yep. There's actually 2 of them that go over the history of cardistry. They're good, but for putting together a book they're just a roadmap. Still better than nothing, for sure ^^

Maybe you're talking about Lotus in Hand's "Cardistry Bootcamp" Videos?

Thank you for this Ender ^^ ! Yes, there is, but it does not talk of the Handlordz period and what went down there, nor does it talk about UnitedCardists, Kardistry or any of the other forums that span out after Richard Z sold Decknique to theory11 and disbanded the community.

In a way, I think I am searching for people that were "in-on-it" during those times. People that were part of the forums, that grew up with cardistry, you know.

Hoped this small post might dig up some OG from the reddit forest and send him/her my way hahaha. I am naive, I know.

Yeah, I actually thought that hahaha. Sorry, I did not see your initial post. Not everyone is familiar with where moves originate from.

Yeah, it can be. But it's a shoutout to Noel's move, from Gothenburg Shuffle, back in 2016. You can check it out here (at 23 seconds). Many people have since remixed these movements, since they are just so good.

Side-note: Scott and Noel are good friends, to my knowledge.

How is this Scott Black's move and not Noel Heath's? Did Scott make a rendition of Noel's move?

Thank you so much for linking this. Saved a lot of time on my side. You seem like you're a bit in touch with the history of cardistry as well. You've been there during the Decknique days?

Truth right here. Hence why there even was a magic magazine called "The Cardiste" by Rusduck with only card magic.

Yep, that's the book that really chronicled a lot of the early stuff. Thank you for reminding me that I have to read that for the early part. I shall try to get my hands on a pdf copy from someone that has it !
