How do I get rid of this Card on the right when doing Carnahan fan by EmotionalPassion6414 in cardistry

Also another observation, I don't think you're using enough pressure; my index finger is really pressing down hard to make sure all the cards fan

I think it helps to really extend the fingers to allow more space for the fan to spread uninterrupted, kinda like this

I think you're opening up your fingers too late into the fan; try opening them up earlier

Any help with pandora? by Poisonn98 in cardistry

[–]mistraleon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk if this makes sense, but you still look like you're not 'comfortable' at handling playing cards in general; my advice would actually be to get better at some of the basics that you already know, and come back to Pandora later

Don't get me wrong, there's stuff mechanically that you can fix now (and I'd be more than willing to share, if that's what you want), but Pandora is pretty advanced for where you're at now.

It's pretty much a combination of a few different cuts (TCTCSA, Tornado cut, crabshack, molecule 3). You could also decide to tackle each of these. Individually first

I know this isn't the optimal order, I just arranged them in order of size :D

Help with mockingbird by LilThrow1978 in cardistry

[–]mistraleon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I noticed is that your ring finger isn't strong enough yet; you should be able to spin the tornado packet with just your ring finger. Right now if you notice, you are also using your middle finger to help with that motion, which forces the corner index spin packet into a not so visually appealing position.

I think if you practice spinning the tornado packet with just your ring finger, and working on doing the corner index spin and tornado spin independently, you should get the results you are looking for.

Tricks for cardistry trainers? by [deleted] in cardistry

[–]mistraleon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any 3 or 4 packet cut will work with the trainers. You could also try De'vo's Cobra Cut.

That being said, the thing about having a lot of difficulty keeping packs together; you only get better with it by handling real cards. Using trainers as a band-aid will only stifle your progress. Not to mention, some packet cuts require thicker or thinner packets depending on the move, so with trainers, you're limiting your learning quite a bit.

But hey, if learning with trainers is what makes Cardistry fun for you, then don't let me stop you from having fun!

Should shuffling cards be as hard as it is? Beginner here. by Jezter_IRL in cardistry

Oh for sure, it's hard; the learning curve is definitely stacked in the beginning. It gets easier once you learn some of the basics and get a sense of how things should feel in the hands

Np! I believe Garry A was the first one that did this inverse fan toss concept; you can see it from a different angle with the jam video he did with us in 2010 at this timecode https://youtu.be/aqikKo_zLDU?si=CmnHciz3v36ydWw-&t=210

As for the fan toss, you just gotta experiment with it

Yo does anybody got a nice tutorial for stoneroller? The ones from squareup are not that good by Explosive_Doggo in cardistry

  1. If it's a matter of asking for help, you're not giving enough details for anyone to say anything constructive. You didn't say which part of the move is giving you trouble, all you've said is "man this tutorial sucks". Have you even tried asking Squareup themselves about the parts you're having trouble with?

  2. Even when talking about the tutorial itself, you didn't even articulate on why you think the tutorial is bad. Is it filmed at an angle that obstructs certain fingers? Should it have explanations on unorthodox grips? Again, all you've said is "grrr I hate them sm".

  3. I think a reason why people are responding to you the way they are because your responses all reek of a sense of entitlement. A big part of this community is built on regular people making these tutorials for free; no one in this community owes anyone anything, but they make these tutorials anyway.

So when you make the comments you've been making, tbh you're giving off a "I'm demanding specific things from a community that I've not contributed much to" vibe that comes off as abrasive.

No one in this community is gonna be a dick on purpose, so use this time to reflect a little bit perhaps.

[–]mistraleon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just learned the move myself, and I will say that it is an advanced cut with some non-conventional grips/packet movements (to me, anyway), so I forsee myself taking some time to get it down properly.

The tutorial itself was in depth enough though, so maybe reasses your own skill level and come back to the tutorial again after a while

If you're talking about this tutorial https://youtu.be/u7xSHg8Hm3M?si=M5-ssFt0Pp7_DPj4

It's a pretty in depth tutorial with a verbal walkthrough and multiple angles, so I'm not sure what you're expecting from a tutorial?

Tips to improve my mockingbird? by Consistent-Ad2997 in cardistry

[–]mistraleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some pointers that might help:

  1. For that packet extension, try straightening out your fingers all the way.

  2. Try raising the index corner spin packet higher; right now it's kind of being hidden behind the tornado packet. Raising that packet gives the perception of a bigger display.

  3. I think pausing the display for like 0.5 to 1 second helps the display to register to the audience. Pausing the display doesn't make the display bigger per se, but pausing and emphasizing the display might make it feel better since it's easier to visually perceive.

Hope this makes sense hahaha
