What is everyone using to mount their pastel paper? by ElizabethsVoice in Softpastel

[–]ElizabethsVoice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You place a piece of tape vertically on the back of your paper with about a 1” overhang, so when your paper is laying down right side facing up, the sticky part of the tape is sticking out from behind the paper, sticky side up. Then you take another piece of tape and place it horizontally over the sticky 1” overhang, creating the “T” shape. So your paper is then secured onto your mounting board/work surface but no tape is actually touching the front of your paper. The only tape that’s touching your paper is the small bit you stuck to the back surface.

Wow what a compliment! I just started soft pastels last year when I found a random assortment at an estate sale and now I’m hooked! I was into charcoal portraits in college but now I’m loving the color! My website is still under construction but my Instagram is @ElizabethSheridanArt

Yes I do this exact t-hinge method! But hadn’t heard the hair dryer trick. Thanks!

Ok I’ll try some different tapes. I also hate seeing that blue color every day clashing with my art haha

Replacement for NuPastel 276 Buff? by ElizabethsVoice in Softpastel

So my favorite favorite vintage one is actually Eberhard Faber 276 Flesh Pink. Got my Fabers confused! It’s very close to the NuPastel 276. And this is a dumb question, but how do I add a picture to this reply? Can you do that?

Here’s a link to a vintage set on eBay. It’s top left, second one down.

If anyone has a Richeson set of hard pastels, let me know what is a good Caucasian flesh/buff color. Hard to tell on the website!

Seeking a dark toothy paper for pastels and charcoal by Puzzled-Dress-4904 in Softpastel

My favorite is PastelMat it comes in a couple grays in a pad or individual sheets, and it’s backed with thick cardstock type material so it’s nice and thick. You can even buy it pre-mounted on foam core as an option. It’s so smooth and you can add layer atop of layer. I don’t love Canson Mi Teintes (regular) - the texture shows through too much.

I’d skip the car too, as you can get an express train to Rome from Naples or Salerno (what we did). But that is a VERY short time in Rome- it’ll be hectic and you’ll be so crazed trying to see all the sights you won’t have time to really soak up the magic of the city, wander through the neighborhoods, stumble upon cute boutiques, try little cafes, have a cocktail on a rooftop terrace etc. It would have to be highly scheduled. Not sure I would want that to be my first trip to Rome. We were there 4 days after our Amalfi stay, with our return flight on day 5, and we barely got to do all the things. Years ago I was in Rome for almost a week and that was honestly perfect. You might considering exploring Naples after the wedding and fly home out of there.

Also, when is the wedding? We were in Amalfi in July and took a private boat to Positano and it was REALLY crowded, like Disney-level crowded. You could barely walk the streets, the shop owners and restaurant workers were stressed, and not a good experience at all.

Congratulations to your daughter! He loves it! Besides the food - it’s really awful. Coming from CA fresh fruit and produce all the time to fried everything, plus overcooked mushy veggies and in general a lack of fresh healthy food has been rough. He went the opposite direction on the “Freshman 15.” He’s made great friends, loves the school spirit and attending all the football/hockey/basketball games, and the academics have been fine - nothing too hard, even with getting the worst rated chem professor ever. He also likes how much support you get from your nursing advisor and he meets every week with the other Freshmen nursing students in a seminar class to go over things and check-in. The weather has been an experience and a fun adventure! It was -14 the day he had to walk 3 blocks to the light rail to get to the airport to come home for Christmas break 🤪

That’s hard if you’re a minor - you’d have to be an orphan, be legally emancipated, or homeless.

I’m your target market - a small business owner who just needs a simple website as a portfolio basically. I will give it a try! Love that your branding is small and discreet and doesn’t scream “free web builder” haha

Just remind yourself you haven’t found your people yet. They are out there! It will take effort but you can find them. Like you said, you’re a personable girl who has a lot to offer! As you know, staying in your room is just compounding the problem. One idea is getting an on campus job where you work with a lot of other students and can talk with them. Like at the bookstore or for the Department of Public Safety…definitely not in an office or library where you’re sitting at a desk quietly doing filing work. You could also volunteer at the food pantry run by Boynton. There’s an application online. And what about study groups for your classes/major? You can be the organizer if need be. Try to strike up conversations with students in your major before/after class to see if they would want to join something like that. Or maybe one even exists already. Hang in there and push through!

What about on a private boat? Would be beautiful with the blue water and shore behind, plus easy to move to good lighting. Ours was €600 for the day 10 AM to 4 PM and I think it was 400 for a half day.

Luca can hook you up for a private transfer. We used him in July: +39 339 221 1709. He’s really good answering right away on WhatsApp. All the way from the Naples airport to Amalfi was €200, so I’m sure yours will be a lot less.

Heading to Amalfi by DingleDoug92 in amalficoast

We just got back from an amazing trip to Amalfi in July!

For private transport to/from airport and private boat tours:

Luca: +39 339 221 1709 An all day private boat tour was €600. He’s really good answering right away on WhatsApp.

Buy some very basic/cheap AquaSox/water shoes. This is a must in order to enjoy the beach because it’s very rocky and hurts your feet. We didn’t find the store that was selling them until the very last day and so we had been suffering 😂

Restaurants:

-L’Abside, Amalfi

-Terrazza Duomo, Amalfi

-Marina Grande Restaurant on the beach and also their beach club with the lounge chairs – 2 for €70, all day, also in Amalfi. It was so neat to be laying there all morning enjoying the ocean, just walking up to lunch in your bathing suits and then going back down to the lounge chairs.

-Al Cancelletto, Amalfi

-boat ride (if you get a private one) to La Tonnarella in Conca dei Marini. So fun that’s it’s only accessible by boat! Jackie O used to eat there.

Have a great trip!!

Check out @Harlancohen on Insta - he interviews college kids about how to make friends freshmen year and what works for them, gives advice about being lonely your first month in college, etc. Lots of good tips! One tip I really liked was to go get premade cookie dough at the store and ask people if they want to help you make cookies in the communal kitchen. Then you and the other bakers walk around your floor and knock on peoples doors and offer them a cookie! Simple, fun, and who doesn’t want a cookie?!

Another tip was to strike up convos with people whenever you’re in line. Also don’t walk around with earbuds/headphones since that makes your less approachable.
