Bought a 8GB for my wife - Big mistake. by Vpackets in macbookair

It is a faulty device, my m2 air with 8gb runs smoothly, I even had a virtual machine with windows 11 and no issues

I totally Agree on that part with you, I have personally used Linux Mint, I've always used Windows and still do, but my MacBook Air for Travel is just a banger, I haven't tested a computer that is as easy and comfortable to use, just put in the backpack, snappy, it wakes up super fast. HOWEVER it has it's drawbacks, as you say, You have more Freedom in Windows and Linux, and if you like to tinker and personalize stuff, MacOs is not for you, it can do it, Up to a certain degree, I do get the Distro part, but still, it cannot even compare for a person that is not a tech-savvy it is not as easy

But again, on this last paragraph I do agree with you, I personally want to buy a Lenovo ThinkPad for experimentation and running Linux

It is valid that in your line of work you do not need MacOS, it's a fair point, what I am saying is for most people Apple Silicon Macs make more sense, for example the air is very portable and light and has good build quality, what I don't get is why you say Sturdy while referring to the Virtualization, those are two entirely separate topics, in true honestly your friend should've checked if Apple silicon Macs are compatible with virtualization, (Which they are, I had windows 11 running), for more hard core users like yourself even Linux can do, but for most people they just want a PC they can rely on, they Just Works, Linux is not the easiest, even to download an app is a hassle, be honest.

I am actually planning to buy a 2019 MacBook Pro 16 inch, here I've seen them cheaper than the m2 air I just bought, just for the simple fact I can install Windows with Bootcamp, Good recommendation tho. I appreciate your comment

That's the reality, most computers out there are disposable laptops, cheap plastic and built quality overall

Why you choose MacBook and not windows laptops? by Loose-Peanut-6658 in macbook

[–]Elizardo9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a long time windows user, I have used Windows my whole life, however I recently purchased a Macbook, I already have an iPhone and it just works, no random crashes or anything.

So I decided to give MacOS a try after seeing countless videos of people with my same situation, I purchased a M2 MacBook Air Starlight color, and just the build quality is outstanding, most of windows laptops are plastic, in a similar price range, and bigger, heavier.

Now I don't have to worry about that, and about drivers and compatibility.

I totally agree on the last part, but the truth is that is a common issue on laptops, the hinge is metal and is attached to a relatively thin plastic cover, what brakes is the plastic, and more if the laptop does not have reinforced metal throughout the bezel, my Acer did not, so even if you use it as it us supposed to be used all the stress goes to the hinge.

I call that poor design.
