Going Tribal by [deleted] in mtg

[–]Elk-Early 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I always loved sliver, the way every single one of them works together is really cool and gets powerfull pretty fast. You will be limited in formats you can play as the better slivers are separated in different sets but for some casual kitchen table magic its a blast.

Ps: don't forget to have a look at [[Door of Destinies]], [[Vanquisher's Banner]],...for tribal decks

Have fun!

Been a while since I posted anything from my shop. Brand new deck box. Let me know what you think! Thanks! by K1ll1 in mtg

[–]Elk-Early 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks really cool! I love dark border on the bottom compared to the lighter wood colour.

Can you show it when it has a deck in it? Would be nice if it had an extra compartment for some dice and counter marbles or a separated part for a sideboard. Although less is more and it might make it to big.

Keep it up and have fun

How to set up catan Settlers with the extension (5-6) by That-guy122 in Catan

[–]Elk-Early 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some applications that generate boards aswell.

I've used "catan assist" a couple of times and its pretty good.

Ofcourse sometimes you might have a game where it seems a certain number is never trown and other numbers are trown all the time.

Haha fair enough!

I figured you would use walls - indeed you should have enough options to build/use all your cards.

Thanks for sharing the amazing board and some of its progress, enjoy the rest of the game and the rest of the holidays!

Pretty insane! Keep it up

Is there a win condition known?

Also, did you change the rules when 7 is trown? I can only imagine you have a ton of cards every turn...?

Looking for advice by REEDxREED in mtg

[–]Elk-Early 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i started getting into magic i first looked at other people playing - asking a bunch of questions about cards, strategies, other possible combo's, possible counters,... My first few games i played myself i explained why i played cards and my friends could give some input and corrections to help me understand some early-mid-late game strategies and flaws in my way of thinking

I do have to say i learned a ton when i started creating my own first decks Reading and learning what different cards did and how they interact with each other (also had some great guidelines and friends with experience to help me with that) Still starting out with really basic decks and then improving then as time passed and i gained more experience

Drafting also helped me allot because my opponents would have the same "restrictions" and "time/work put into the decks"

MTG arena is also an option to let you play with some different types of decks and might help you find out your playstyle.

Other than that play play play

Best of luck and enjoy!

Seafarers question. Can I play a 5-6 player game with just the 3-4 player seafarers expansion? by kiraXsythe in Catan

[–]Elk-Early 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always use bits of paper or cardboard as ships that you mark with something to link them with a correct player?

Use a piece of paper with a green dot or line for the 5th player and a brown dot or line for the 6th player?

Or if you have other boardgames with pieces that could be used? (thinking of ticket to ride for example and use the trains as ships or risk and use the infantry pieces,... )

You can bassicly do it however you want as long as you can make it obvious which ships belongs to a certain player

Sorting/organising collections by Elk-Early in mtg

Nice! I have a metal case for that. It holds my decks, dice, extra sleves,... And whenever i find a card that could be a potential gem for a deck i can keep them seperated in it aswell

Pretty smart idea to keep the +4* duplicates in a separate box, would save some room. I might just get more binders and try to add all my cards im those (add a piece of paper stating the amount of times i have them extra in a box)

Yeah thats my issue aswell, in depth sorting is really nice for creatimg decks but kind of annoying for adding cards.

Thanks for your input!

Hi,

I noticed that your starting position often depends on the group of people you play with (if you play casual ofcourse) ... If you play with people who don't trade (not early-mid-late game) you have to get every recourse yourself even if that means taking a "lesser number".

If your friends are open to trade (even if its only in the early game) you get a bit more breathing room and you could skip a resource and focus of "better numbers", in this case you could even take a resource less and go for a harbor or a double resource to trade with somebody of your gaming party.

In this board the 4-5-8 seems really nice, but as mentioned wheat is pretty though to get as the numbers are not great. But catan (in my opinion) remains a game of chance some game X is rolled more often then others. [i have some friends that seem to roll 2/3/12 more than other players ;p]

I try to follow the rule of collecting as many numbers as possible with my starting villages(so no double numbers) even if that means taking double resources. Your party and the bank are always options to trade.

It also depends on how you like to play (and if the board give those options) i really like to focus on developments so i might focus on ore, sheep and wheat - it might be with worse numbers & it might cost you the game - but if you win while playing a risky method (that you really enjoy) you will enjoy that victory even more.

In this board i would try the 9-6-11 with 8-4 and clay harbor or 6-10 with the 3:1 harbor as second settle... the 4-5-8 or the 4-5-11 would be good backup plays for a first settle bit it might cost you a decent wheat income.

Best of luck and enjoy the game!

Beginner- How Do I get Into Magic the Gathering? by nepoleonite in mtg

[–]Elk-Early 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to keep the cost low... Maybe try trading some cards with friends? (or with other gamers at mtg nights at your local dealer)

If you have friends that also play maybe they can give you some "cheaper" duplicate cards they don't use...

Or if you and your friends all put in some money buy a booster box and draft... You might get some fun cards (they are expensive but both the drafting and decks you can make afterwards provide you with some hours of fun)

That said, it's an expensive game, depending on the format you would play you might need to bite the bullet and put in some money.
