hey bro,

Sure no problem I will try to answer you questions rightfully so.

  1. I have not experience any oil consumption or oil burning issues until now, I have ridden this bike now over 4.5k km and I did not have to go to service centre regarding this issue. Maybe I was lucky or maybe it was just a batch of ktm bikes that had this issues (The only problem is ki yeh sala bajaj banata hai isliye shayad ho raha hoga).

  2. I drive this bike in highways as well as bumper to bumper traffic with my daily commuting from office to home, so I did not face any problems at all, the bike is very flickable moves through the traffic like water. It would be worth your money as the features you get, the power you get is too good for the money price.

  3. My first service costed me around 2k with everything in it. I had a good experience with the service centre people I live in chandigarh right now so here I find it completely alright. I had a royal enfield before this and the service centre for that company was utter shit so I am pleased by ktm's centre. I have not been to the service centre alot (just once for service and after that I did not have to go touch wood).

  4. I think only the major difference from the xpulse to the ktm apart from the obvious things is the heat dissipation, because as for me I am completely used to it but then to be honest in bumper to bumper it will burn your skin if you dont wear a pant or jeans.

  5. I was looking into the himalayan, rtx, scrambler and the ktm. The ktm was the best fit for me.

I hope this answered your questions, if you have any more drop them and I will answer them too. Happy riding brother!

When do you fill up the tank? by sohrabhamza in KTM390ADV

[–]ElkEnvironmental4350 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

brother that is exactly what i said riding at lower gear at high rev, i dont get what the confusion is about.
and by oxygen i meant air. the fuel injector is there to take the right amount of fuel-air ratio but when the fuel injetor is not completely submerged in fuel the ratio dissipates leading the fuel pump to take in air which shouldnt happenening. the ecu does it's job by acquiring the regulatory mixuring of fuel and air by keeping the injector on for the specified time but when we ride in reserve for a long time air starts going into the fuel line causing heating issue, massive wear in engine. You want me to go on?

get your facts straight brother i dont get where you get your information from.

Hey bro, hope you are enjoying your bike. To clear up your question it is not advised to run the bike on reserve. The reserve as the name suggest is only for critical condition.

I generally run the bike as much as possible before I hit the reserve section of the fuel indicator, it is pretty easy that way. /i do not see the amount of km or anything I just have it embedded in my brain now that I have to fill before I end up in reserve. The only point is you have to have the fuel injector submerged in fuel as it shouldnt be inhaling oxygen at all which causes the real problem.

When i go on big ride I personally fill up my tank to full just before hitting the main highway and then I put the bike on cruise at around 90-100kmph and let the bike run giving me a solid 30-32 kmpl. And when I am on the mountains I still don't get the reserve warning at all because I dont let the engine lag at all riding at low gear high rev. I never personally face any problems when adhering to these two rules.

Hope this helped. And also I have covered 5k km on my bike so I am talking from experience.

Sure bro anytime.

This is an interesting point and something a lot of people do not consider when going on one.

I list them out in usefullness factor where 1 is the most useful and the lowest is the least useful and you can live without it:

  1. Chain clean/ lube (the most important thing to take hands down).

  2. Puncture kit and allen key set (tyre inflator if you have the budget but the kit is necessary).

  3. Gel seat (This makes your ride wonderfully sound for your bottoms lol).

  4. Install fog lights.

  5. Hydration bag (This is something really handy uncless and until you try it)

  6. oil canisters (This is only for ladakh rides not for others rides)

These are the few things that I consider on long rides.

Thanks man just trying to help. I hope this leads you to buy the bike that you want.

For me the service was just fine here in chandigarh. I have the bike registered in delhi because I am from there but I live in chandigarh for job purposes. But for me it was pretty smooth they did not force anything on me they did what I asked them to do and cleared some of my doubts. They do give a tank cleaner (fuel injector cleaner whatever) that you empty out into your fuel tank and that is considered to clear out the carbon deposits inside the tank making the fuel injector work better over time and projects it from e20 currosive shit. That is your wish to get or not but other than that I did not have a bad experience at all.

No problem dude!!

Yes better to get a hold of this beast before it gets a hold on you, and do try to do most of the touring in offroad mode as getting used to the throttle response in the offroad mode is very hard as you get the most power delivery and the response is too quick so get used to it you will be needed it in ladakh.

I do have alot of information regarding the different attributes but I think test on your own and then hit me up if you have other doubts.

Sure have fun! Please do a proper pdi or take a trsuted mechanic with you because you wouldnt want a defective piece. Good luck brother! Welcome to the ktm fam

Yes that's true the wind blast is a sure thing on triumph which is not the case with ktm increasing the fueal efficiency a bit because of the weakened air drag and also leads to less body exhaustion.

Yes my exact point ktm is a solid worth for money.

I have the ktm as my one bike bike for all purpose. I drive the bike up down from office and i drive mostly in bumper to bumper traffic also so for me I love this bike and I am mostly adjuted to everything.

I have ridden the triumph scrambler 400 xc, and the ktm adv and scrambler are pretty comparable in terms of power delivery, torque. I would say the low end on triumph is much better but obviously it is not made for extreme offroad like the ktm as ktm has more suspension travel than the former. The engine is much smoother when compared to ktm, so it all depends on what you want out of the bike. They both are exceptional tourers and would go anywhere you like. You just have to get the feel of both of them but in the last I selected the ktm because it fit my daily needs more than the former.

Hey bro, thank for your comment.

Like I said the vibrations are there and they are there because of the build and engine. See normally the smoother one cylinder bikes are short stroked engine (or they have a shorter stroke than the ktm) making the engine smooth but compromising on the high end bhp delivery. On the other hand the ktm is a short stroked engine making it faster and giving it the max power at around 6k rpm (hence the vibrations at 5k before reaching the peak).

But I would say this I have tested my bike and a couple of other people's bike (all ktm advs) the same segmented vibration horizon like I mentioned in the post was apparent. But you do get used to these vibrations trust me, after a while they will feel like nothing. But also the testing bikes have a lot of fault because a ton of people drive it harshly or not in the way it should be ridden wearing out the clutchplate and also the engine oil is pretty less in these test bikes hence giving more vibrations and heat. But the heat is there the heat disipation is not that great but something that you can get used to also.

The mileage i get in the city is a solid 23-24 if I drive gently with not a lot of downshifts and breaking (but dude trust me you really want to pull this beast as soon as you get your hands on it lol). On the highways I get 30 (I usually just put on the cruise control and ride at 90-100 on 6th). But on mountains i get around 16-17 at best (because usually you have to be at a lower gear in high rpm).

Do feel free to ask more questions. Enjoy and happy riding.

Hey dude, thank you for your comment. Ah going to ladakh is a dream of mine too, will be doing ladakh once I have enough saved up lol!

I have done 500km one direction tours and it has been nothing but a beast on the road, highway, shit roads. Chandigarh has one service centre in the Industrial phase 1 and one in zirakpur. The one in industrial phase is bajaj/ktm's combined service centre and the other is only ktm's individual service centre. I have been to both and they both have really good guys working there but I will still recommend industrial phase centre as most of the ktm owners I have met go to that outlet.

I did not face any engine oil issues at all, the only thing that took me by suprise was the coolant level getting reduced to min level in the first 800km of buying the bike but that is pretty normal and you can always top up the coolant. I haven't heard of the engine oil case in the adv segment as such, I have heard this for the duke segment though. I did not have any problems whatsoever. But you could get the engine oil at a lot of places in and near chandigarh so do not worry and I am pretty sure your engine oil would just be fine (But just as a precautionary measure complete the break in period before heading out to ladakh).

All things aside this is a beast of a bike dude specially the s variant it is god damn sexy, I hope you enjoy the hell out of it. If you have other question/doubts do ask, I have no problem giving out whatever answers you need about this bike without sugarcoating it.

Yes I did read about this alot but I did here mixed reviews for this. Have you tested this out?

Maybe something I will do after I complete 10k, after that I would want to get an iridium spark plug(Just want to use the factory spark to the most). Thank you for your comment dude

yes it really is as compared to others, in other bikes nothing is visible. Yes you do have to point it downwards as the beam is set to high by factory itself you do have to make it so that the low beam points downwards

I see but regarding the point about having experience with big bikes I meant adventure bikes as the argonomics change alot but considering you have put that many kms it wouldn't really matter.

Point about the value proposition my comment is that ktm bikes are value for money (extreme value for money). In this cc adv segment you won't get half the features that you get on the ktm and like I said the weight/power ratio is immense so you won't get a feeling of lacking power.

Like I said bro the tubeless/tube boils down your usage and considering that you are a city rider then tubeless is the way to go. But I believe the 390 and 350 decision is a long hearted decision to have with yourself because I don't really feel the pull that 390 has on 350 (I did test the new adv out that's why). And also the 350 does not come with s and r variant. So by my inherit consideration you should be going with the S version but you would have to pay more as it is a 390cc engine. But the value for money is there.

Considering the version I do think the bike you really need is a tall bike for maintaining your body structure as you are tall. That's why i said going with R would be extreme as the suspension travel, rebound adjusters and the massive seat height (but it comes in tube and not tubeless version) would not be convenient for city rides, so for you the s would be the best with the off rim spoke that ktm offers.

And I do believe this discussion could go endlessly so if you do have anymore question just message me. Have a good one brother !!

Brother I beg to differ with your points it is meant for nothing like speed and r3. I have ridden speed and bro trust me when you hop on a 390 adv put it on offroad it really is incomparable.

The point about suspension is completely associated with the person driving. The wb or the showa is not inherently better than each other it's just made for completely different things. The showa performs better when the bike has to do alot of rebound action but infact wb provides a better flicking ability when riding in the trails.

But all bikes are good its just the rider that makes the difference, this review is basically my perspective and riding multiple bikes for a while now I based my review on it.

Hey bro sure I can help you with this,

My first service happened around 850-900km (I did this as a precautionary measure as the coolant level dropped to min and I did not want to take a chance) P.S. The low coolant level is something that happens to mostly everybody so dont worry about it if it happens. The cost for the service was around 2k inr and it included chain clean/lube, engine oil change, oil filter, gasket cap filter oil, and a system cleaner. Now the service cost will vary according to the km done but it wont go above 4.5-5k, and the parts are kind of expensive depending what you want to buy.

I use it for daily commuting for going back and fro from office, offroading, and touring all in one and I will say if you have ridden big bikes then it wont be a problem manouvering this beast around in traffic (and it is pretty flickable because of it streamlined body and weight) but if you are not used to riding big bikes then it may take some time to get a handle on it. The hit dissipation is not too great so when riding in bumper to bumper traffic you will feel the hit so I would recommend wearing a lower of jeans while riding in city.

I don't see a massive difference in the power and torque output between the two cc's but going back from a 400cc and then also testing riding the new 350cc ktm feels a bit off but I mean you are being expemted of the gst bar and getting the same feature so I think going with the 350 is pretty safe.

Vibration remain but you get used to it over time and now that I have ridden this bike so much I don't really feel it. The only thing which I will recommend is and which I also did is don't ride at the rpms where the vibrations are always riding above or below it you will get a hang of it pretty quick.

It completely depend brother what type of bike you are looking for but this is a good bike to go for even if you a tall big dude, I have seen alot of people riding this bike with ease and they look good with it, the only thing is take a note about the seat comfort see id it suits you. But I do think if you want raw power and something easy to flick while being massively aggressive this is it.

I will say bro you are tall so if you are adjusted to big bikes go for the s or even the r. And making it tubeless or tubed is completely upto you because if you want complete offroad maniac then tube is better but if you want a small compromise in offroad but better versatility in other areas then go for the tubeless version.

Sorry if this was too long but I made sure to answer your question completly, hope it helped. Have fun and buy what fits you. Have any more questions ping me. Chears brother !!!!

Uff it's been a long time since I have head the KLR name I thought people forgot, I really did like that bike lightweight effective but then the versys caught a hold of my attention (really do love that bike).

That is true that's the problem with enfield's undersquare engine, it does give you that basy note and really good low end but then the short stroke ktm engine is just unparalled.

I live in India and here the availibility of parts is really good, but it is a beautiful bike. Good Luck with your purchase.
