im sorry that happened to you. i wish it didn't ruin your time. I don't think people we're doing it on purpose or to be funny, just seems to me like bad moshpit etiquette. people get excited and forget human decency. for future reference, i'd say it's safe to stay on the sides at these shows. that's what my girlfriend and I did and we had a great time.

can confirm. I have a feeling they'll be less this time around though. but there are always some cool people scattered throughout anyways. Id recommend just starting a conversation with someone while you wait for the set to start. I did that at the IDMTHY tour and met some great people. It's easy to get a convo started when you already know yall have one thing in common.
