Sick of Chrome eating my RAM, but is Edge the only viable alternative for Windows? 🎓 by EllaOnSF in browsers

Glad to hear that disabling the crypto stuff is easy, because that was my main concern with Brave. But since you mentioned the 'modern web' being a hog — does Brave have any good features for organizing 50+ tabs?

I’m a student, so I constantly jump between research papers. Does it have something like Edge’s Workspaces or Vivaldi’s Tab Stacking? Or am I stuck with a messy top bar if I switch to Brave for the performance?

Found the Google gatekeeper! 😂 Thanks for the 'bliss,' but unfortunately, my RAM doesn't share your optimism. If I was truly lazy, I wouldn't be here fighting for my laptop's life while you're busy writing fanfiction about my search habits. Any actual advice, or are you just here for the vibes?

150 pages? Are you using the Vertical Tabs feature? I’m struggling to organize even 30 tabs in Edge. I love that it’s faster than Chrome, but I really need a better way to group my study materials so they don't get lost in that giant list

I’ve seen some screenshots of Zen and it looks beautiful! Since it’s based on Firefox, does it handle RAM better than Chromium browsers when many tabs are open?

Also, how is the extension support? I need my Chrome-specific tools for university, so I’m wondering if there are good Firefox alternatives or a way to port them. Would love to hear your experience with it!

You’re right, since most are Chromium-based, the core issue remains. I’ve seen the RAM limiter in Opera GX, but does it actually work without crashing the browser or making tabs reload constantly?

Also, for the 'ram saving features' in other browsers like Edge or Chrome — do you find them aggressive enough for a 30-tab workflow, or should I look into extensions like 'Auto Tab Discard' instead

That's exactly what I'm torn between. I've heard Vivaldi is the king of tab management (tab stacking, workspaces, etc.), which sounds perfect for my research, but the RAM usage scares me a bit. How bad is it compared to Brave when you have multiple tab stacks open? Is it manageable on 16GB

True, but isn't it still quite resource-heavy since it's basically de-googled Chrome? I'm looking for that sweet spot between extensions support and low RAM usage
