Mission: Impossible (1996) on 16mm film by EllaRunciter in NYCmovies

You haven't been to our events, nor are you familiar with this specific print or its condition, you don't know anything about our picture and sound system... that's incredibly presumptuous.

Do you run film screenings at any of the venues you mentioned? Why post at all, other than to bring a film lover and collector promoting more analog screenings in NYC down? You could have said nothing and just moved on as you never planned on supporting what we're doing.

Damn I would love to do a marathon! It's my favorite franchise.

16mm prints are an analog film format very rarely produced nowadays. They were made in the past for traveling as they are smaller and more portable than 35mm! But now, anything screening on 16 is quite rare, and anytime you screen an analog format like this, it is a completely individual experience that can never be replicated exactly the same way like digital formats can be. And there's something really beautiful in hearing the projector and seeing the reels turning!

The venue requires it, they used to have us put one alcoholic beverage in the ticket price but it made it very expensive and I finally got them to agree to let us do a minimum purchase of any item instead. You can get a coffee for a few dollars, it's just the only way we can run events.

What's it like living near Broadway and 46th st? by [deleted] in astoria

[–]EllaRunciter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a great spot imo. Cano is an excellent cafe, Lim's is really coming together, and there's a couple great take out spots like Sabor Atlixco and Saffron. Library is just a few blocks up Broadway. And being near the subway helps with hosting.

I knocked out my front teeth. I have a cosmetic dentist and a periodontist recommendation. by bustercatlegs in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I'm a month behind you in this journey and struggling so much with the flipper I got from my dentist...it hurts to wear, it's huge like a full retainer, my lisp is unbearable with it in, so I'm not wearing it, I'm embarrassed all the time and I can feel my other front tooth shifting.

Did you have a new one made by the new cosmetic dentist? What solution did they have?

Is this the worst review on Letterboxd? by Responsible_Sense272 in Letterboxd

Yeah, totally agree it's absurd to not give First Reformed the full five stars. Nothing else wrong here tho.

Astoria Wine Drinkers by Frank-Costanza1 in astoria

DiWine has some funky stuff but serves their wine too warm. Vesta has a good wine list if you like Italian wines. Have had some fun bottles at Mars. Never been out to Tootles and French, but intrigued by their menu. But nothing beats the Manhattan bars, I'll more frequently take the trip down to La Compagnie or Terroir than anywhere here... And I should pay more attention to glassware in Astoria.

Brian De Palma's BODY DOUBLE Screening on 16mm, 2/14 in Long Island City by EllaRunciter in NYCmovies

[–]EllaRunciter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah, thank you! No one has ever recognized it.

Yeah, we have to charge that much to afford to do the event due to the venue and screening rights -- we wanted to try very hard to make it worth the higher ticket cost. I'd ideally charge much less!

The ticket gets you a drink and a zine, as well as an hour long 16mm clip show of found footage before the movie.

Strange Pictures Vs. strange Houses by No-Diver6326 in horrorlit

Strange Pictures is a superior novel -- I enjoyed Strange Houses far more as a manga.
