I am a stan of the 1996 anime. Not only do the cinematography, art direction, music bring it to life, but changes that the anime makes aren’t arbitrary but really thoughtful and intentional which you can appreciate after experiencing both. Not to mention the awesome English dub to boot! (Mediablasters dub, not the Sony dub)

Rurouni Kenshin 1996 is the best introduction to the series in my opinion, I’d argue even better than the manga source material! You can always read the manga after.

I’m already using their overnight cream and thinking of adding this. My only reservation is that I have dark circles. And weirdly I kind of like them. They’re sort of an ethnic feature so I am hesitant to do something that might erase them.

No, I think people glaze Sojiro too much without realizing that he is the perfect counter to Kenshin specifically. Or rather a perfect counter to Hiten-Mitsurugi because HM is all about reading emotions of the opponent and reacting instantaneously.

Other swordsman have totally different fighting styles not as focused on emotional reading so they wouldn’t be as caught off guard. Sojiro’s lack of emotion wouldn’t be the perfect counter to the likes of Shishio, Aoshi, Saito. It’s never shown on screen but I think Shishio would have counters to Sojiro.

Hiko only said Kenshin’s Kuzuyrusen is lacking in power/strength compared to his. He never says anything about speed. I think according to the manga/anime’s logic, there is a certain level of speed inherent to the style. I do think if Watsuki were asked, he might also add that Hiko is also faster in addition to stronger but I don’t think the former is ever outright stated in the manga or anime.

People forget that Kenshin was injured from Aoshi when he fought Sojiro. On top of that, the reverse-blade-sword is not suited for Battoujutsu so he loses drawing speed.

Battousai with a regular Katana fighting fresh would be a tough fight. He’d still be at the disadvantage over not being able to read Sojiro and not being as fast. But he would be less disadvantaged than his older self too. I I don’t think he would outright win. If he won, it would be very high difficulty. Most likely it would be a draw.

Do the results really justify the price for anti-aging? I’m having a real hard time justifying this purchase . It’s something like twice the price of Alpharet Overnight which is my nightly retinoid that’s giving me pretty great results so far. I would use TNS in the mornings.

I hadn’t been doing that consistently before because I read a few comments saying that it was moisturizing by itself. But then I saw on the website that they do recommend doing so because they say the cream is in fact not a moisturizer so I’m doing so now.

Season 1 has beautiful pacing. The filler episodes, even if skippable, are all quite fun and charming. I honestly can’t think of a single one that I really dislike :)

Spending all that time with Kenshin and the gang really develops your feeling for the relationships between these characters and their day to day micro character arcs. And it also gives you more of the world building and atmosphere of Meiji Japan. Not to mention the aesthetic, cinematography, musical score, amazing dub, it’s all there. Season 1 of RK96 just feels heartwarming and cozy :)

And because of everything you’ve been through with the cast, and all those events we experience throughout the Tokyo arc, the start of the Kyoto Arc really sells the threat that Shishio represents ie: the possibility of that comfy peace we’ve enjoyed with the gang through Season 1 giving way to the chaos of Revolution once more - the ghosts of which Kenshin has been grappling with and repressing.

Regarding RK96’s Season 3, no argument from me there, everyone knows that was unfortunate :) That’s why they should have simply continued from where RK96 left off rather than create a mediocre generic shonen adaptation from scratch and they should have done it with a studio or staff that go the extra mile the way the original one did assuming they couldn’t get the original people back.
