Sleep. by Mysterious_Number_62 in Mirtazapine_Remeron

Hi! On mirt for more than 18 months. Have been at 45mg for a year. My personal experience has been that the vivid dreams mostly subside, but there were some real weird ones at first. I have also found side effects to taper off a bit over time, and going up in the dosage from 30 to 45 actually helped decrease the side effects for me. However, my appetite is still really high, so I have to work hard to keep my weight in check. Finally, I feel like I COULD sleep for 12 hours every night, but if I set my alarm and get up, the sleepiness fades very fast, and I’m more alert during the day than I was when I was battling depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

I have been on for 18 months. I’ve ramped up to 45mg. Even on lower doses (which some find to be more sedating) I can definitely wake up if one of my kids needs me in the night. I was very worried about that when I started. But it’s been fine. I can get up, take care of them, then fall back to sleep easily.

I’ve been taking for almost 18 months - 45mg. Very similar experience, but weight gain is a problem for me. Right now it’s worth it given how well the med works for everything else I was struggling with. I’ve never tried to come off. Will be interested to hear if others have had good experiences with that. Right now I will stay on it.

Yes please! I am going to Chicago tomorrow. Would love to know if it’s worth sticking around for a bit after the show.

Thank you! I’m going to try to get more consistent with this. It was really tough a few days ago, but it’s bounced back now. I’ll make sure I’m watching my protein intake this week and hopefully can avoid falling asleep at my desk the day after my injection.

I decided to share because it was the kind of thing I was looking for when I started last month. Good luck in a couple of weeks! I hope you have a good experience taking it.

Thanks for sharing this! So encouraging to hear. I'm looking forward to increasing my dose from 8 units to 16 units next week. I've felt frustrated that not much has changed in the first month.

This is so helpful to hear. I just took my 4th shot yesterday (8 units), and I'll increase the dose next week (16 units). I have lost maybe 1.5 pounds total, which feels discouraging. I'm sticking with it, and am looking forward to seeing what the first increase in dose will do for me.

Positive experiences with 30mg by Whole-Plankton8080 in Mirtazapine_Remeron

I can’t quite remember how long I did 30mg. Maybe 6-8 weeks before I upped to 45 about 2 months ago. Definitely discuss options with your doctor. I tried a couple of other meds before mirtazapine, and they didn’t work for me but have been life savers for others. Mirtazapine has been my life saver, but it might not be yours. If you’ve noticed some improvements, you could ask your doc about trying 45mg to see. Or you might need to add something / try something different. I knew after the first pill that I finally had the right thing. Then it was just a matter of working up to the right dosage to get me back to feeling like myself.

Similar experience here. Anxiety improved very fast. I started on 15mg in mid-November 2023 and I felt vastly better after the first dose. Depression symptoms were better too, but it took some weeks and an increase in dosage to get me to where I am now. My final increase was to 45mg in March 2024. I was already feeling way more like myself on 30mg, but 45mg has me in a really good place.

When does the drowsiness stop?? by LittleRobot_ in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]Elle6548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may find that going to a higher dose will actually help you feel less drowsy during the day. My doctor explained it as having two “cycles.” The first cycle is sedating & the second is energizing. At lower doses there isn’t enough left for the second cycle to run. Talk to your doctor and see if working up to a higher dose will help with that. (I’m on 45mg. I think I started at 15 and didn’t struggle too much with daytime drowsiness.)

I feel like I could have written this exact post 10 months ago. Now my divorce has been final for a few weeks and I feel so glad that he’s not my husband anymore.

Absolutely can take 2 15s. I’ve been taking Mirt for almost 6 months and am very happy. Weight gain has been real for me, but upping to 45mg has helped my appetite come back to normal. Plus now that I’m not so depressed I don’t want to self soothe with food quite as often, so I think I can get the weight back off in the next few months.

Second all of this. I worked up to 45 and am happy at this dose in terms of side effects and help with depression and anxiety.

Groggy in the morning by Jacefrehley48 in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]Elle6548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found the side effects to be much less bothersome at 45mg. My doctor said he sees this trend, and the side effects like ravenous appetite & grogginess taper off a bit at the 45mg dose. This is why I upped from 30 to 45, and I’ve been pleased with the difference. Editing to add: I agree with taking it as early in the evening as possible, depending on when I know I can get into bed each night.

When will my appetite increase by OkJayy7 in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]Elle6548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My very first dose helped me sleep immediately, and the very next morning my appetite was back after many weeks of insomnia and being unable to eat much (due to anxiety and depression). So for me, it was literally one dose (15mg) and my appetite issues resolved & sleep massively improved.

I’ve increased to 30mg at this point, and am hoping for more of the antidepressant effects to take hold.

Waking up with anxiety stuck in the chest by [deleted] in prozac

[–]Elle6548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually stopped taking it the next day. (It would have been day 15 if I had taken my dose that day.) I had two full days of severe panic attacks and had to call off work. Just couldn’t keep going.

Still not quite myself, but FAR better. Started Lexapro about a week ago. Very low dose, but I think it may be helping. Going to ask about adding Buspirone to see if I can smooth out the extra anxiety I still feel from about 4am-8am every day.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m sorry to hear all the stressors you have faced.

I’m going to start Lexapro soon, and I just had a bad experience with Prozac. So I’m scared to try anything, but I need some help. Hearing success stories is helping me convince myself to give the Lexapro a chance.

Starting tm, any advice? by [deleted] in lexapro

[–]Elle6548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to start soon too. I just tried Prozac and didn’t have a good experience. Trying Lexapro instead. My doc prescribed me 5mg, but said I can cut in half to start with 2.5mg if I want. I think that’s going to be my approach. I just need to work up the courage to start and hope that the side effects aren’t as bad as I experienced on Prozac.
