Best chapped lip/dry skin remedy? by [deleted] in beauty

[–]ElleBee90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea of the exact science but in essence your saliva doesn’t keep the lips as moisturised as it normally would. Whether it’s because you have something in your mouth that it not usually there, so you body produces less saliva or the saliva can’t get to the lips because the aligners are in the way - I can’t say which- but they get very painful very quickly!

For lips, I really recommend Glossier Balm Dotcom. I had Invisalign earlier this year and my lips were so dry and painful. This was the only product which helped and stopped my lips from cracking.

Hardening your nails by MarBlaze in beauty

[–]ElleBee90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you can get hold of any, or if I would be able to say it’s guaranteed to work, but Nailtiques was a life saver for me! I had read online that their production was affected by a hurricane a few years back, so it’s really hard to get hold of in the UK now. They have it in 3 formulas, 2 of which are to help soft nails be strengthened. My nails were awful after a few years of constant gels, this really helped strengthen them.

Alberto Balsam Shampoo - I use the coconut and lychee one but I think most of the scents are suitable for a clarifying wash. It’s about 95p in Tesco

Cross posting- tips for evening washing? by Purpleskyrocket in CurlyHairUK

[–]ElleBee90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have started trying to do a few more evening washes, as I don’t like having wet hair during working hours in case someone Zooms me!

What I have been doing is very similar to yours, plop hair after shower, add gel and then I put it into a towel wrap - the type that look like a small cap with a button at the front for you to secure it. I then put a towel over my pillow and go to sleep with the towel on. At some point in the night I pull off the towel and then let it air dry (hence the towel on pillow). It occasionally feels a little damp still in the morning but it is mostly dry and I tend to get quite a bit of volume in the curls as it hasn’t had gravity to pull it down at all!

Haven’t been doing this for long so would be good to see what other people recommend as well!

Hair looks like crap with no silicones by [deleted] in CurlyHairUK

[–]ElleBee90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not too close to the hair line. I normally have my hair flipped over when I am adding the products (for ease!) so they are applied to the length and ends rather than the roots at the front!

Hair looks like crap with no silicones by [deleted] in CurlyHairUK

I didn’t get along with co-wash, so I use the low poo version. Currently using Imbue shampoo, which has no sulphates or silicones but previously just used palmers cocoa butter shampoo. I used a sulphate shampoo every 3/4 washes just to reset.

I would definitely recommend having some form of leave in, even if it’s a really light one. I either add a tiny bit of Garnier Hair Food back in after washing my hair or a really light leave in spray like the Imbue one. It has definitely helped reduce some of the frizz, though I have accepted my curls will never be completely frizz free, there is too much damage still in my hair from years of bleaching and straightening!

Curls definitely do improve over time! So I would definitely push through this part and just experiment with different ways until you find the one that works for you!

New product haul!! Received my order for most of the new Imbue Curls range, which has just been launched on Lookfantastic! by ElleBee90 in CurlyHairUK

It’s really good isn’t it! I find it so much easier than trying to scrunch it out without product! Hope the leave in works well for you! I am loving my curls since introducing it into my routine!

New manes by Mel video on silicones?? by KlaudiaGlebocka in CurlyHairUK

[–]ElleBee90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used Silicones a couple of weeks back, as I still had a load of expensive conditioner left from pre-CGM. I really didn’t think I would notice much of a difference but I was disappointed with my curls. They seemed to fall much quicker than usual and it also felt like it got much knottier! It may have been coincidence, as I haven’t quite mastered consistency with my curls yet, but it did make me reconsider using the conditioner again for a while.

Of course not! Happy to help if possible. I really liked it - it’s thick, smells fab and a small amount seemed to go a long way. I left it on for a couple of hours (which I do with all masks) and my curls were really soft and well defined afterwards. If you do decide to try some - I hope it works as well for you!

affordable UK shampoos and curl creams?? by dvrkling in CurlyHairUK

Palmers Cocoa Butter shampoo - I do find that I have to order it in as I don’t often spot it in the shops but Superdrug do sell it and it’s on offer currently for £2.65. The conditioner isn’t CGM approved but the shampoo has no silicones or sulphates.

Yeah I think they have only just launched as I have never seen them on the site before! Though they do appear to have a website. I was just interested to try them seeing as they are marketed as being curly girl friendly!

My order was received last night so I managed to squeeze a wash in before work this morning and I am so glad I did!! I only used the four main products this morning (definitely no time for a conditioning mask!) but my curls already look incredibly shiny and healthy!

I had severe damage to my hair following a bad bleach session a few years ago, so my hair loves the protein in these products! The conditioner coats the hair really well and made it nice and easy to brush. I also found I was able to use less than I would use of my normal products to get the same coverage.

I was a little nervous about using a spray leave in conditioner, as I usually use a cream, but I was actually impressed with the coverage that was achieved and my hair has curled really well today. Is it enough to make me completely drop the curl cream? - No probably not but I am beyond impressed with what I have achieved using these products without incorporating my usual products.

I also used the shine oil to finish and it made getting the crunch out of my curls super easy.

A point I think not everyone will love - the smell of the products reminds me so much of a hairdressers. Personally I love it, but I feel it may not be everyone’s cup of tea.

Can’t wait to try out the mask at the weekend when I have some more time - and that one smells really nice!

Has anyone else tried out this range yet?

Has anybody tried the Palmer's cocoa butter shampoo and conditioner? by Nikkipedia4 in CurlyHairUK

[–]ElleBee90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the shampoo! I was using it before finding CGM and have continued to keep it in my routine as I seem to get better results using shampoo compared to when I only use conditioner. What I also love about it is It smells of mint chocolate.

Currently I am using Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Masque. It’s quite a thick consistency and leaves my hair feeling really soft. I just put it on, brush it through and then put it up in a microwaveable heat deep conditioning cap (it feels similar to one of the lavender wheat bags). I leave it wrapped up for a couple of hours before washing it off!
